Inspired by Karl, These Are All the Model Met Gala Moments

The models and stars showed up in full force for fashion’s biggest night at the 2023 Met Gala, which celebrated the exhibition “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” Lagerfeld, a legend in the industry who worked at fashion houses like Chanel, Fendi, Patou, Balmain, Chloé, and his own eponymous line, was often synonymous with the Chanel brand. The spring exhibition, featuring over 150 pieces, including many of Lagerfeld’s sketches, is open to the public starting May 5th. The inspiration behind this year’s dress code theme was “in recognition of Karl.” Some attendees took the theme quite literally, such as Doja Cat, Jared Leto, and Lil Nas X, who dressed up as Lagerfeld’s cat “Choupette,” while others paid homage by incorporating elements of Lagerfeld’s signature style, such as monochromatic colors like Cara Delevigne, tweed like Sora Choi, and pearls like Gigi Hadid. Designers and their muses also put their own spin on Lagerfeld’s archival looks, with Gisele Bündchen making a comeback wearing a dress from a 2007 editorial, and Ashley Graham sporting a Harris Reed look inspired by the Chanel Couture F/W 1987-88 show.
