Carven Taps Louise Trotter, H&M and Mugler Collaboration Is Coming, and More News You Missed

Louise Trotter Is the New Creative Director of Carven
Former creative director of Lacoste, Louise Trotter was appointed as the new creative director of Carven this week. Trotter will debut her first collection for the brand during Paris Fashion Week in September, a galvanizing moment for the French brand that hasn’t hit the runway since 2018. Trotter said, “I feel honored to write a new chapter for Carven: a youthful French house that to me embodies a spirit of freedom, joy, and a confident femininity. I look forward to respecting Madame Carven’s legacy by making clothes with a new simplicity that are both purposeful and beautiful, whilst being kind to people and our environment.” [WWD]

H&M and Mugler Collaboration Is Coming
H&M has yet another collaboration with a luxury brand coming up, this time with Mugler. The collection will launch online and in selected stores this spring. The high-street retailer has previously collaborated with Maison Margiela, Karl Lagerfeld, Comme des Garçons, Lanvin and Versace. H&M’s creative advisor, Ann-Sofie Johansson, partnered with Casey Cadwallader, creative director of Mugler, “on a capsule collection that showcases the best of both brands, marking a special moment that brings luxury looks to the high street.” Fans have waited in line for hours for H&M’s past collaborations, so there’s no doubt that fans will be queued waiting for the new pieces from the brands. Black in Corporate X Kering Mentoring Program Is Open for Applications
Black in Corporate and Kering Americas have partnered for another virtual mentorship program round, and applications are open. The program will run for three months and the 22 mentees will be matched with individuals across Kering Americas executives in departments such as marketing and advertising, project management and operations, human resources, financial services, legal, media and communications, and technology. BIC founder and chief executive officer Candace Marie Stewart said, “people often get jobs based on who they know or the mentors they have stayed connected with. If you have never really been in that space, you cannot be top-of-mind [as a candidate] or oblivious essentially. Even the partnership with Kering came about because one of my mentors was in Kering.” Applications close March 9th, and the program will start April 7th, and you can apply here.[WWD]

Joan Mitchell Foundation Accuses Louis Vuitton of Producing the Artists’ Work Without Consent
The Joan Mitchell Foundation has claimed that luxury fashion brand Louis Vuitton has reproduced three works by the artist without permission in an advertising campaign featuring actress Léa Seydoux for handbags that are priced up to $10,500. This past Tuesday, the Foundation sent a cease and desist letter to Louis Vuitton Malletier declaring that the company should withdraw the campaign and release a complete accounting of the advertisements purchased and an apology. Foundation executive director Christa Blatchford said, “It’s important for folks to understand that this wasn’t something we agreed to. How did it even happen is my question. I honestly don’t understand how it happened on their side. I really don’t.” Last December, Louis Vuitton contacted the Mitchell Foundation multiple times, which manages the licensing of all images of Joan Mitchell’s artworks. The company asked for permission to use the works in upcoming ads. However, the Foundation turned down the company’s requests multiples times “due to a long-standing policy that images of Mitchell’s work be used chiefly for educational purposes and have extremely limited commercial use, such as merchandise for an exhibition.” The foundation has always prioritized making Mitchell’s images available freely to scholars and museums. CEO of LVMH Bernard Arnault even offered the foundation a donation in exchange for permission to use the photos in the campaign, but the foundation still refused. Regardless of the multiple refusals, Louis Vuitton still released the campaign. [Art News]
