New York is awash in a sea of grey and beige as the minimalist revival continues, but what most designers who attempt austerity forget is that if you’re going for simplicity you have to know how to cut. With their impeccably crafted S/S collection, Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi of Preen show how it’s done, mixing precision cut shapes with rich fabrics in icy colors. Pattern and texture played a part in Preen’s effortless vision – particularly in the cobalt and jet segment, but the most impressive feat was their mastery of minimal, be it on the perfect pintucked cocktail dress or that subtle lacy detailing.
