Antonioni is a fashion god but maybe it's time to move on from the "yet another tortured but chic housewife wandering the industrial wasteland" layouts that photographers tend to fall back on. The solution? Why not get into the lush visuals of French filmaker Alain Resnais whose brilliant 60's work is finally surfacing on DVD. The key must-have? The legendary 1961 film "Last Year At Marienbad " starring Giorgio Albertazzi as an impeccably dressed stranger trying to convince an even more impeccable Delphine Seyrig that they were past lovers. And if Delphine looks particulary "coutured-out", maybe it's because all the costumes were designed by Chanel. Coco Chanel that is. Quick sketch artists, on your marks!

Liya's No 1!

One of MDC's first covergirls, Liya with her maximum visibility (for Dolce, Tommy and Estee Lauder) and her editorial rampage just hit No.1 on MDC's Top 50 Working Models countdown. And if you thought the current ID cover was the "shocking cover choice by that British style bible" we blurbed about a few weeks back, think again. There's more major Liya moments streaming down the pipeline. It's wonderful when nice girls finish first!

Elite Sweep

When Elite's Show Week package goes into circulation in the next two weeks, expect to be hit with a suite of girls that could very well rival recent breakthroughs like Dewi and Linda V. There are choices aplenty but one newcomer who sent the MDC alarms ringing was this Czech stunner Lenka. Pictures are one thing, but the video we glimpsed showed a girl with the kind of walk (and presence) that make punters go "whoah"....Speaking of Show Week, expect special daily editions of OTM in September as we swoop for scoops from the castings to backstage to the after-parties. Here's an early tip...Give Next Management a ring and ask about options on Brooke Shields as the American Icon will be in town for an exclusive group of shows. (And OTM will have the evidence in the form of our exclusive Brooke Q+A).

On June 20th when MDC exclusively broke the news on the "All About Kate" Sept 03 issue of W, what we weren't tipped off on was the fact that there would be 9 highly collectible covers. Nor were we prepared for Chuck Close's very frontal nudes of Kate. All this from an upscale US fashion publication. If the Fairchild contingent does not get the Award for "Most Audacious September Issue Ever" then there's no justice left in publishing. God bless em again!

There are young agents in LA totally obssesed with this site, so expect your favorite style bible to start testifying about the supercool community being built up at friendster.com. The mysterious site (it's free and NOT currently seeking investors) has been luring some of the film and fashion industries' most influential young players interested in on-line mixing and mingling. We could name names (OK...The Hilton Sisters as a giveaway) but that would just be as tease as membership in the site is by invitation only. How very "VIP edition of The Sims".
