Iris Van Herpen Couture Fall 2013

As one of fashion’s most forward thinking designers, Iris van Herpen is always there to push the envelope. Whilst others are churning out ball gowns or cocktail dresses to send down the catwalk, van Herpen uses her runway as a platform for innovation. Utilizing cutting edge processes like 3-D printing to create cocoon like shapes and sculptural forms, van Herpen hammered home ideas about body modification and surgical perfection. Silicone accents echoing the shape of bones, or fanning out in layers of triangular fringe gave the collection its fantastical feel. Even in the typically lavish realm of couture, van Herpen’s designs stand out as a over the top abstractions, destined for a place in groundbreaking editorials and on the pedestals of fashionable museum exhibits.

I hope Ms Herpen can find ways to monetize her couture offerings into something more tangible and affordable to ordinary consumers – it wont be an easy task. However, due to her apparent lack of idleness and rampaging ascent among fashion lovers, our waiting is going to pay off someday in the near future. She is a true artist and deserves a lot of praise.

  2. Thuc Dang says:

I appreciate all the craftsmanship going on but come on, that first look on Carmen Kass and several ones after just scream blatant McQueen

  3. juan says:

I agree with Thuc. the craftmanship is superb, but lots of the looks scream Mcqueen. There’s a dress that resemblances one of the pieces from Mcqueen’s plato’s atlantis collection. the similarities are just uncanny

  4. miguel says:

Mcqueen? i don’t think it. She has a own style, more visceral and less boring

  5. SAGAR says:

I am extremely impressed about fashion, it is not very easy to anyone, but everything is very admirable and superb….

  6. Horacio Plata says:

Ms Herpen, does not cease to impress, these sculptural shapes,
Wrapping the body’s silhouette , look like they belong
in the ” Black Swan” set.

  7. Justina says:

amazing, she should continue creating, this is the future, this is aspirational.

  8. Nádia says:

It looks amazing, like a picturesque, underwater dream! Loving the details so much!

I understand what Thuc Dang is saying though, it does resamble a bit McQueen, but, yet again, Miguel has a point, she’s more visceral alright.
