New York Fashion Week Produced Beauty that Connected to Real Time

A snowstorm smack dab in the middle of fashion week was the perfect analogy for the weathered, windswept mood of Helmut Lang this season as Creative Director Peter Do created a collection focused on protection and the beauty followed suit. The storm elements further came into play with hair stylist Jawara’s Bumble and Bumble cowlick look that defied gravity and convention. Makeup artist Daniel Sallstrom was the perfect balance, creating with MAC Cosmetics a smudged smoky eye that was a little off-kilter, as if the rain or snow streaked it away.

A dark wood set the tone for Jason Wu Collection this season, as the designer further explored his deconstruction era with draped, wrapped and frayed silhouettes that shrouded models in elevated mystery and sartorial intrigue. Makeup artist Diane Kendal used Jason Wu Beauty to vary between illuminated skin with strong brows, geometric, feathered eyes and gilded lids to match the gothic aura. Hair stylist Jimmy Paul followed suit with a TRESemmé-aided coif that was either slicked back or emphasized the New York spirit of effortlessness with textured hair, pushed behind the ears.

For Carolina Herrera, Wes Gordon was all about powerful glamour suitable enough for a Capote Ball, just ask Demi. If you listened closely, the soundtrack from Netflix’s Griselda played as models sported classic Carolina white button-ups tucked into structured evening wear and a silhouette that took up space. Hair stylist Jimmy Paul turned to Bumble and Bumble to mold a sleek wet hair that read more sensual than severe. Makeup artist Sam Visser was inspired by Ms. Herrera’s iconic Andy Warhol portrait and brought in the color palette with neon eyes and liquid red lips achieved using Carolina Herrera Makeup.
