Lee Alexander McQueen one of the most prolific designers of modern times, committed suicide 10 years to this day. Founding his label in 1992 after his graduation collection was entirely bought by influential stylist and editor Isabella Blow, McQueen went on to be known as “L’Enfant terrible” – unruly, defiant and not without controversy in his designs. His model choices also brought contention in an industry obsessed with perfection as he clothed double amputee model Aimee Mullins, British writer Michelle Olley, and Kate Moss after the supermodel’s cocaine scandal. So many models including Moss called him a close friend including Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen and Annabelle Neilson and the industry undoubtedly has missed his dark romance and expertise over the female frame. In tribute of the 10th anniversary of his death, we reflect on a few of the many runway muses McQueen consistently featured.
