Thakoon S/S 13

There was a renewed energy to be found in Thakoon Panichgul’s spectacular Spring showing. Every change Panichgul made this season was a positive and served to highlight his impressive talent; from moving his show’s location away from the gilded history of the Plaza and into an airy downtown gallery space, to eschewing last season’s classicism in favor of whimsical prints and trompe-l’œil, it all worked. The second Marie Pioevesan sauntered down the runway in that stunning birdcage dress, the audience knew it was in for a treat. What followed was a spirited set of to the knee dresses and skirts that were sweet without being cloying. Panichgul’s prints were as beautiful as ever, with butterflies, birds and assorted flowers taking center stage. The embroidered lotus blossoms and hummingbirds were especially lovely and served to impress cagey editors and front row stars like Christina Ricci. The winsome fantasy of the season’s flora and fauna patterns was brought to life by an exquisite cast that captured the mood of the moment perfectly.
