The Models.com Model of the Year (MOTY) Industry Awards are the voice of over 250 voters representing a wide range of the industry’s top professionals, including many of the industry’s top stylists, designers, photographers, editors, hair and makeup artists and casting directors, and a wide range of the next generation of the industry’s emerging creative talents. Participants include Katie Grand, Bethann Hardison, Prabal Gurung, Ellen von Unwerth, Robbie Spencer, John Pfeiffer, Anita Bitton, Piergiorgio del Moro, Carlos Nazario, Barbara Nicoli & Leila Ananna, Hung Vanngo and many more!
Fashion’s biggest fans also got in on the fun: the Readers’ Choice section offers an up-to-date and often surprising selection chosen by you, the MDC readers. The people have spoken – tens of thousands of them in fact and their choices are every bit as exciting as those provided by insiders.
The awards are broken down in 11 categories as follows:
The singular face that defined the year as a whole with ubiquitous industry demand and presence. They distinguished themselves via top tier bookings with the best photographers, stylists and clients earning next-level visibility, making them 2018’s foremost star.

Like model of the year, the breakout star has had a substantial presence on the modeling scene, only their careers have just begun to take off in the past several seasons. As a newcomer to the fashion industry, these rising stars have racked up coveted campaigns and impressive editorial work in a short period of time and are set to leave a lasting mark on the industry.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder and these beauties took extended breaks from the rigors of the modeling world only to return with a vengeance. Whether they opened a noteworthy show, or found themselves on the cover of a cutting-edge magazine, these comeback stars have proven themselves essential.
If the past year has taught us anything it is that every tweet, Instagram photo, and like adds up to a powerful presence within the world of fashion. These models have leveraged their followings into key bookings and heightened influence, inciting a media frenzy with each and every post.

For 2018, instead of voting on humanitarian efforts, Models.com is celebrating fourteen models working to change the world in a separate feature (Photo: Hanne Gaby for Maison Margiela Mutiny by Craig McDean):
The sidewalk is the new catwalk and these models bring fashion to the streets with outlandish and eye-catching looks that have made them the women to watch for off-duty style. Some have taken their street style prowess one step further, broadening their horizons by acting as stylist on editorial shoots.

Celebrities have become an unavoidable presence in luxury advertising, but certain stars are every bit as captivating as the models. Putting their posing skills to good use (often honed during their career beginnings as models) and bringing with them an air of Hollywood glamour, these are the celebrities who play the role of model with ease.

Why does every keep talking about ‘diversity’ like it has actually changed? This year was not a ‘diverse’ year it was a Black and White year with a couple of Asians and South Asian scattered here and there. Come on people diversity is not 45% White 45% Black and 10% Asian. Just look at the results of these ‘awards’, where are all the Asians & South Asians.
Next year there should be more Asians and South Asians being nominated and booked for major jobs. This is unnacceptable our ethnicity is not a trend.
I second this. This whole black and white trend is fake diversity. It’s just black and white. The actual world is like a rainbow – full of different colors and people from different backgrounds. This black and white trend needs to stop. That’s fake diversity.

Which independent, external accounting firm did you use to check and verify the results?
As a casting director I usually check this website, of course!
I don’t know why people keep calling Chrissy a model. She’s alright but she’s a celebrity, not a model.
These votes are the biggest.
2k18 was ohne of the Most colourful years on the catwalk.

By the way, did anyone notice that Georgina Grenville has over five pages of work in MDC just for 2018? She should’ve deserved a nomination…
Harry Styles should’ve been (at least) nominated for his work with Gucci.
and how about Zoe Kravitz?
