Lily Donaldson Blooms

lily-027.jpg
Lily/ Select . Image courtesy of Select
A new Lily blooms in London and rest assured Select's hottest new break out face has the editorial options stacked to the roof. It was a massive catwalk season for this newcomer as she clocked mileage for Missoni, Jil Sander, Vuitton, Chanel and Yves St Laurent. Miss Donaldson has also been lensed by Steven Meisel, Satoshi Saikusa and Corrine Day for Italian Vogue, Simon Emmit for Numero and Liz Collins for both 10 and Pop magazines. Is the return of the Great Brit Star Model looming? MDC might have to check the boards in London for further traces of a possible trend....Speaking of trends, it's multiples upon multiples for several key FW 04 campaigns currently been cast. At press time Versace was looking for sixteen mannequins and Prada seemed inclined to repeat the group ideal of the S/S 04 shoot. Add to that the continued incursion by celebrities into the market with Hillary Swank spotted in the studio this week for Calvin Klein underwear. It's going to be a booking battlefield!

Rianne Reigning

Rianne/Elite. Numero April 04
Former MOTW Rianne/Elite continues to break away from the pack as THE model of her season adding a third Numero cover to her editorial bounty that stretches from Italian Vogue to US Vogue and back. Her FW 04 campaign line-up should be a bonanza for the Elite booking board, no. (And let's just note that rumors of that particular NY agency's demise are greatly exaggerated.)

Viva V-Man

Vman2Cover.jpg
Gael Garcia Bernal. Ph Testino for V Man S/S 04
V Man Spring/Summer 04 hits your friendly neighbourhood newstand at the end of the month and it certainly is lush. With everything from an alphabetized front-of-the-book covering everything from caviar to Kylie Minogue, a killer Helmut Berger tribute shoot starring a sleek Sean McNatt/Elite as shot by Nathaniel Goldberg to a sumptuous tuxedo editorial by Solve Sunsbo, the second issue is gloss personified. Our favorite spread though has to be Karl Lagerfeld's hilarious "7 Days A Week" style tutorial featuring the style god himself as the mannequin of choice. Just goes to show that fashion without a lash of insane chic is just product placement .

Genius Jaunel

JAUNEL_2.jpg
Jaunel/Supreme. Ph Bruce Weber for W April 04
Supreme beauty, Jaunel is at maximum editorial velocity with her current newstand exposure in the current issues of W (shot by Bruce Weber) and French Vogue (shot by Mario Testino) not to mention her forthcoming repeat booking for American Vogue. With a stint in The Face still to come, it looks like this aerodynamic Jamaican beauty is perfectly poised to be fashion's latest bourgeois-chic princess.

More Morgan

Consider the recent momentum of IMG's breaking face Morgan. With coveted catwalking stints for Kors, Balenciaga, Celine and Helmut Lang under her belt, this is one fresh face who gets our "Ones To Watch" asterik...Also drawing their fair share of attention at the IMG powergrid is Alex and Theo Richards currently highlighting the Valentino Couture ads as shot by Testino.Alex has also been on a editorial rampage landing gigs in French Vogue, again with Testino, Bazaar w. Demarchelier and Italian Vogue with Meisel. Add to that the chart gridlock being experienced with Daria and Gemma and its clear that IMG's humming overtime these days.

Super Cool

Put aside those extra pennies (well...quarters) because NY is about to issue a new oversize 420 page bi-annual fashion and art magazine titled "SUPER". MDC has the exclusive preview of the launch issue themed around "icons" and in between the layouts by that certain Comme des Garcons graphic designer, features on Tarantino and Araki and 34 different fashion editorials , this one is quite the bonanza. The official launch date is April 25. Stay tuned for more.

Scintillating Cintia

Cintia/Marilyn
Add Marilyn's fetching redhead, Cintia Dicker to the short-list of girls we are loving , right this minute. You might have glimpsed her at Badgley Mischka and Proenza Schouler in NY but brace yourself for a suite of major editorials (apart from this spot in the W supplement).

Super Agency

NYIMG_00003.jpg
Will Chalker/NY Models.
What do you get when former Karin's director David Ralph intersects with Clear's Ingrid McAuliffe and docks at NY Models? The making of a new men's agency super-power? Just looking at the board of this agency that now ranges from Will Chalker to Ryan Locke to Derek Huck, you can only but imagine the booking traffic that's going to come streaming through this junction.

Breaking Barriers

Joseph/Major.
Kate Moss shattered the rule. Devon and Kiara proved that a unique and beautiful face can change the scale. So why is the 5' 11" rule so religously enforced in male modeling? Maybe because the market was waiting for a face like Major's 22 year old star Joseph who in the quick succession has shot D Squared w. Steven Klein, Polo underwear w. Richard Phibbs, Numero w. Alexei Hay, Arena H+ with Mathias Vriens and L'Uomo Vogue with Bruce Weber. All this at 5' 6". No wonder this Ohio wonder boy had been dubbed by his agent Jason Kanner as "THE male beauty model."

Eternally Great Kate

Kate Moss/IMG.Ph David Sims /Paris Vogue March 04
It beat us to the stands before we could upload, but nevertheless the new French Vogue is a must-buy for Kate fans with the kind of soft and sensual imagery that Miss Moss does so well. And if you need more Moss then she graces the new cover of ID also, which we suspect is a record of sorts. She towers above all, no?

Kass Sizzles

Carmen Kass/Women. Japanese Vogue March 04
Carmen Kass fans have been waiting for this classic supermodel to lighten up (hairwise) and she has done just that, tapping into her chameleon quality for the new cover of Japanese Vogue. That girl is simply essential!

Lisa Cant: Double Hit

Lisa/Trump .Ph. Steven Meisel for Italian Vogue March 04
It's two covers in a row for Canadian cutie Lisa Cant making it clear that she is the apple of Meisel's eye right this minute. And it seems the lenses are still firing for this hot contender. Stay tuned for more...Also keep a close watch on the other two breaking faces looking to nab the "new girls of the season" slot. Rising fast is Marilyn's Dasha who has scored virtually every intellectual-chic show in her path (think Prada, Sander, Balenciaga, Lang). And then there is Women's Natasha Pola who has a very similar booking path along with some major editorial bookings clogging up her charts. She's going to be a very busy girl.

Carry On Gemma!

otm_030504.jpg
Gemma/IMG. Ph Paolo Roversi/W April 04
Does opening the FW 04 Helmut Lang show clinch the fact IMG's Gemma is in the cat's seat for the choice campaigns this season. Her Italian Vogue supplement cover as well as the April 04 W cover is certainly not going to slow this girl's momentum. Right this minute she is the new girl most wanted.
