This Year's Models

vogueitjuly032.jpg
Daria/IMG. Ph by Steven Meisel for Italian Vogue July 03
Move over Brazil. Take a backseat Belgium. For 2003 the hot model source was America's quiet neighbour, Canada. With Prada icon Daria Werbowy/IMG stomping the Spring/Summer 04 catwalks to smithereens, Jessica Stam/IMG sprinting forward as a new camapign force and Heather Marks/Supreme leaping out as a major breaking face, expect a scouting stampede to those Nothern borders. As one intrepid model hunter put it. "Canada is a $300 plane ticket away. Visas are usually a snap. The girls speak English and occasionally French. They're as clean cut and All-American as the Americans yet they have a bit of that " continental " polish about them. Its all about Canada right now" Which makes MDC think it might want to get to the front of that bandwagon and start its 04 Canadian model-tracking...now!

V-View

Linda Evangelista Ph. by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin for V Spring 04
2004 kicks off right with the Spring issue of V magazine slated to hit the stands in January. The issue celebrates Louis Vuitton's 150th anniversary with a fold-out cover featuring the alpha-mother of the Canadian advance, Linda Evangelista shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin The interior spreads include a series of Vuitton related pictures, an art collaboration between Mario Sorrenti and filmmaker Shannon Plumb (who will also have the collaboration on display at the Sarah Meltzer Gallery in NYC in Jan), a fashion story by Glen Luchford and Tabitha Simmons with Stam, Marija and Lily. Best of all, check out a special vintage fashion story on Body Map (the legendary 80's designers) shot by Craig McDean with Julia Stegner. That should get you out of the post-holidays doldroms!

Loving Supreme

When the FW/04 show season rears its pretty head at the end of January 04, be sure to case the comp cards at Supreme which already is positioning a new flank of major beauties for prime time. MDC glimpsed a certain new Brazilian that left us perfectly speechless.....In the meantime, for the breakthrough Supreme faces , the bookings are piling up with three key girls looking poised to break into the editorial A-list. Former MOTW Heather is converting key US editorial clients to her cause having landed campaigns for Marc by Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, Kenzo, Moschino and Just Cavalli. Jamaican beauty Janelle, who is beautifully positioned for a killer FW 04 show season is also set to go A-list . Campaign champion (and former MDC covergirl) Julia with Dolce y Gabbana, David Yurman ,YSL and Ralph Lauren in her pocket is also burning hot right this very second....On the Women board, another former MDC cover girl Louise Pederson, swept into town last week and found herself shooting every single day for Italian Vogue,Allure, Numero and V after lensing the Anna Molinari w. Craig McDean, Carolina Herrera w. Terry Richardson and BCBG w. Patrick Demarchelier . Now there's a girl who'll need a vacation. ...And speaking of vacations OTM will be taking a brief hiatus before the casting and booking wars of the New Year. Our next posting will be , oddly enough Jan 31. Until then have a fab holiday

Everything's Gone Green!

Introducing MDC's new Member News section
The usually staid IMG throwing a major Christmas bash at hot downtown spot Megu (complete with the Canadian cuties Daria and Stam shimmering like newborn stars, while former MOTW discovery Damien had heads whipping)...Agencies doing record business (upwards of 30% increases) even as the phones keep ringing off the hook deep into December. Are these leading economic indicators signaling that the recession of the past 2 years is finally starting to wane? Whatever the case, all we know is that the boom in bookings is also showering down on MDC as a suite of MDC members have been landing some pretty hot gigs. Check out the details in our new Member News section!

Leticia's Bounty

modelofyear.jpg
Leticia/NY Models. Ph Vincent Peters for The Face Dec 03
It's a monster S/S 04 campaign season for NY Model's leading lady Leticia as she repeats the Armani with Mert n Marcus, as well as picking up a new Armani fragrance spot with said lensmen. Leticia also is the new face of Plein Sud with Vincent Peters shooting. She's got a second fragrance ad in the bag in the form of a new Dior advert shot by Mondino and then there's that Chanel make-up gig with Wolfgang Ludes. Those Brazilians really are the hardest workers no? ...In others NY Models' news...a surprise casting change sees Omahyra replacing Naomi as the new face of Roc A Wear...Speaking of surprises, has it occurred to you that we've never seen the venerable David Bowie in a fashion campaign? If Tommy Hilfiger has his way with his newly launched "H" collection, that's about to change as we're looking at a fax with David and Iman's name as the "confirmations" for said line. That should be interesting!

A.J 's IT!

AJ-04.jpg
AJ/IMG ph by Karl Simone for IMG
You saw him chilling at MDC's Fashion Week bash and did a double take at his naughty shenanigans in that French Vogue shoot courtesy of Terry Richardson. Now brace yourself for a big dose of high visibility AJ as the hot newcomer just nabbed slots in the Tommy Jeans campaign w/ Ellen Von Unworth, Levis w/ Koto Bolofo and Barneys w/ Roxanne Lowitt. And that means it's time to revise the Top 50 Men's listing once more, because this gentleman is simply a must rank!

Generation Next

UntitledANNA-card.jpg
Anna J/Next. Ph by Greg Kadel
When the fashion circus reconvenes in January, booking editors and casting directors might want to keep a keen eye out for Next's new generation. Leading the pack is the fetching Anna J with gigs lined up in British Vogue w/ Paolo Roversi, Italian Vogue w/ Steve Hiett and David Sims as well as German Vogue w/ Philipe Cometti. On the Belgium front the elegant Marie V, (currently highlighting an Italian Vogue story w. David Slijpers) flies into NY next week to shoot Teen Vogue next week w/ Terry Tsiolis (Only Girl). Sounds like a prime contender to us! In the meantime, Next's editorial marquee girl Jessica Miller is the new Chloe girl as shot by Terry Richardson as well as this season's Cesare Pacciotti face as shot by Craig McDean.

Ford Force

Liliane/Ford Ph. by Micheal Thompson for Allure Magazine.
They're the latest powerhouse on board MDC's scouting platform and Ford's new generation is certainly poised for major market moves. Breaking out of the pack is Chicago native Remy who in her first two months of modeling has logged Numero with Solve Sunsbo and L'Uomo Vogue with Richard Burbridge. Equally entrancing is 16 year old Cameron from Boston who after marching down the S/S O4 catwalk for Calvin, Marc by Marc and Luella, has put said issue of Numero with Sunsbo and Teen Vogue with Raymond Meier on her charts. . Ford leading light Liliane continues to pack on the bookings logging Marc Jacobs with Juergen Teller, Kors by Micheal Kors with Chloe Krispin, Byblos with Michaelangelo di Batista and Perry Ellis with Patrick Demarchelier. The girl means business!

Making Marija

marija-wmagazine.jpg
Marija/DNA Ph Craig McDean for W Jan 04
It seems there are two front-runners in the New Faces Of The Season S/S 04 sweepstakes. Last season the spots were swept by Daria/IMG and Julia/Supreme. This time former MOTW Rianne/Elite, and Marija/DNA look set to clinch their places. Marija after the coup of her Gucci/YSL show exclusives nabs two lead stories, one in January's W with Craig McDean and the other in January's Harper's Bazaar. Add to that Marija's upcoming SS/04 YSL ad (shared with Julia/Supreme) and her Dolce Y Gabbana fragrance ad lensed by Meisel and what you have is the girl most wanted....
In other campaign news IMG hottie Diana Dondoe is quite the Parisienne this season with campaigns for Celine and Balenciaga (a repeat appearance). To Kate Moss' Chanel and LV score add Missoni and Burberry (Burberry also stars Stella Tennant/DNA). For the record Natalia/DNA is the featured model in the upcoming CK Jeans ad, alongside Dasha/Marilyn and Tatiana/DNA . Nailing the very competitive booking on that newly coined Calvin Klein line is Amber/DNA. The only sure thing on the Prada booking right now seems to be Daria/IMG repeating her exclusive from last season. She'll be joined by several other models but we'll consider it a confirmation when the pictures goes to the printers. Looking very impressive for IMG right this minute is Jessica Stam who in addition to her currently running Dolce gig, now adds Ungaro to her roster.
