Iconic Pt 1.

Kate Moss/IMG. Ph. By Mario Testino for V Winter 03/04
It's Kate Moss headlining the new V, complete with a branded Burberry cover that also boasts a peel and sniff strip of Burberry's Brit fragrance...Speaking of branding, the house of Dolce y Gabbana loved the mutiple girl format of last season so much, they're reprising the idea for the Spring 04 campaign and they are a few casting surprises in store. Also going multi is Louis Vuitton, except their multiples this season are very very legendary...And finally, could someone explain to us why we're seeing Mario Testino's name on the campaign lists for Valentino? Duh! Maybe its because Mr Testino IS lensing this season's Valentino ads!

Iconic Pt 2

Naomi/1 Mgmt. Ph. ID Cover December 03
With all this talk of "new Naomis" the original article seems ready to remind the world why she is the one and only. Gracing the December cover of ID, Miss Campbell is gearing up to amplify her profile on both the music and fashion scene. On Tuesday Miss Campbell blew through NY, headlining the new Jay-Z video for "Change Clothes" before jetting back to London for her S/S 04 campaign bookings. Seems a legend can always hustle that legacy.

This cover of French Vogue should certainly be garnering Diana Dondoe major attention this campaign season. Oh those Parisiennes they have so much fun!

Campaign Mix

Nicole/Women. PH By Ian McLean
It's that time of year again as agents worldwide are battling trying to land their charges the choice S/S 04 campaigns. With the $63 billion global luxury market slowly crawling out of a two year slump (US department stores like Neiman's, Nordstorm's and Bloomingdales are anticipating a year end sales increase of 10%-20%) maybe a canny agent will be able to broker better rates than those of the past year.
That said, this season saw a flood of new faces hitting the runways. Which ones will nab the blue chip campaigns is not as easily deciphered as in seasons past. Now that Tom Ford has telegraphed the message that his runway openers are not necassarily his campaign choices, speculation is rife on his next move . Will Hana/DNA be nabbed for YSL as per her first exit at the show or will agency mate Marija be the apple of Tom's eye this season? And what will the tally be for Nicole Trunfio, Women's newcomer who logged catwalk time for Fendi, Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci, Versace, Chloe, Valentino, Chanel and Lagerfeld Gallery.
Prada, which at the last minute revamped its runway line-up is doing a very good job of keeping its options open, leading to speculation that a"legendary" face just might be the clincher. Versace at press time seemed to be leaning in a "new direction" while Calvin Klein was opening up its jeans line to include a multiple girl booking. For the model-watching community, the best news of all might be the rumored return of Gisele Bundchen/IMG to the campaign sweepstakes. It'll be an interesting November!

Paging Mr Robinson.

Ph. John Robinson. Still from Gus van Sant's "Elephant"
Someone once said fashion is the desire for that thing you can't have and if that's the case John Robinson, a high school senior from Lake Oswego, Oregon is very fashionable right this minute. Robinson, the co-star of Gus Van Sant's highly anticipated feature "Elephant" has more than half a dozen major fashion labels chasing him for their S/S 04 campaigns. But young Mr Robinson has been turning everything down, hell bent as he is on making Asia Argento's JT Leroy project his next vehicle...Speaking of S/S 04 expect to see icons Kate Moss and Linda Evangelista front and center in the campaign sweepstakes...In other celebrity news, Britney Spears has a surprise for you tommorow night when she performs on Saturday Night Live. She won't be alone, as her infamous kissing partner from September's MTV Awards will be making a "special appearance". And yes that would be Madonna!

One Power

Sonja/1 Mgmt. Ph by Andreas Sjdodin
The business is still abuzz with news of Naomi Campbell surfacing at multi-media shop, 1 Mgmt but MDC will always be equally excited by the feat of grooming and guiding a complete unknown onto today's crowded model market. Looking like a winner for the 1 team right this minute is newcomer Sonja, coming off the triple booking of Prada, Miu Miu, and Luella. With the options piling up fast for this one, we'll be watching closely... In other 1 Manangement supermodel news, Eva Herzigova's swimwear line has been drawing rave reviews with powerhouses like Vogue's Anna Wintour and Miuccia Prada dropping by the launch party during Paris Fashion Week. And the buyers are biting too as that ultra-influential Paris boutique Colette, scoops an exclusive on the line. And you thought model merchandising was dead!

Genius Gemma

Gemma/IMG. Ph by Justin Smith for Aus. Harper's Bazaar

The fashion road show is entrenched in Paris but we're still combing the Milan cabines for those fresh new faces that could be next season's stars. One gem that sparkled brilliantly at Prada and Miu Miu was this Australian import Gemma Ward. She's looking very promising!

Jamaica's Finest

Jaunel/Supreme. Pola courtesy of Supreme
Is Tom Ford bent on perpetrating a Jamaican moment in the house of Gucci? After the renegade choice of Jamaican newcomer Nadine Willis for his FW 03 campaign, Ford sent another Jamaican - Jaunel - down his catwalk as Look 4 in the freshly concluded S/S 04 Gucci show. With both models stemming from a formidable Jamaican outpost titled Pulse, MDC will be watching that local agency very closely....Speaking of watching closely, noticed the radical new bowl cut being sported by Elite's new Dutch treat Rianne. Looks like somebody's been given a make-over. Hmmmmm.

Hi Energy!

Former MOTW RJ/IMG. Ph Bruce Weber

While we're in preview mode, here's an exclusive first look at superstar model RJ's new Dior Energy campaign. There's also a TV spot for said cologne lensed by Bruce Weber coming to the tube so stay tuned. (Now if that wasn't "embedded advertising" nothing is!)
