Joan by Mikael Jansson for Interview Magazine September 2010

The unstoppable Joan Smalls keeps things exciting; from her debut on the runways of Givenchy, to her stunning turns in Vogue Italia, there is just something about her that gets your attention. It is no surprise that Ms. Smalls has become the first Puerto Rican face of Estee Lauder, joining Hilary Rhoda, Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski as a global ambassador for the company.

OMG sooooo deserved. I’m excited to see the result of the commercial with Lui, Constance and Joan. I think it’s going to be great.
And then the upcoming Gucci campaign. I hope she’ll be in the (high fashion)game for a long time.

  9. stace says:

Wow, I didn’t know that about Joan and Estee Lauder, but major Congratulations to her.

  10. Josh says:

I am telling you guys that Joan is going to be iconic. She can do it all, from Givenchy to Gucci to Estee Lauder, then eventually to Victoria’s Secret. THE Naomi or Tyra of our generation(sorry, Chanel)!!!!!

  11. arimbi says:

Now, all she need is a Vogue Italia cover. Then a top 5 on mdc. Woot woot!

  15. Mark says:

Estee Lauder made such an excellent choice. Joan is so exquisite, classic and polished for their brands. Kudos

  16. poo says:

She’s a timeless beauty. There’s something very old-school (in a good way) glamorous about her. Good for her.

  17. Tamris says:

I foresee a top 10 placement on models.com this week and surely when her new campaigns hit she’ll be top 5. Joan is just exquisite and deserves it all. Someone said Joan is the new Chanel. I disagree. Joan is the new face of Estee Lauder and has done many things that Chanel has never done and never will. Joan’s seems genuine. She’s the real deal. I wouldn’t be surprised if she replaced Chanel in VS.

  18. bepal says:

Joan deserves “all the stars in the world”. Amazingly beautiful. She is destined for even higher admirations for her future accomplishments. Definitely iconic!

  19. Things I Like says:

  21. brucegisele says:

Joan reminds me of the 90′s supermodels…. She has a inmstant star n muse-ness about her. I can imagine her opener and closing either a Balencaiga show or Gucci show to the song “Float On” by Midest Mouse…. I feel bringing that energy back! Yeaaaa!

  22. Geronimo says:

FELICIDADES!!!!! WE ARE REALLY PROUD OF YOU IN PUERTO RICO! WE KNOW YOU WILL GO FURTHER!

  23. Duncan says:

Joan Smalls NOW ranked #8 on models.com!!!! She deserves a TOP 5!!!!!!!

  24. brucegisele says:

I agree with someone. Please don’t compare Chanel n Joan.., Joan would win, plus they have two opppsite looks. Also, CHanel is still a little girl! Her face shows it. I think she just now starting to develop into something Chanel is a late bloomer you will see. Joan on the otherhand. Always had it, no one took time to see expect Richardo…but, Joan brings something that Gisele brought back to fashion: a supermodel, household supermodel! Like the girls of the 90′s.m

  25. Nigel S. says:

Wow. A massive congratulations to her. I had no idea.
She has been popping up everywhere lately, it warms the heart to see her achieve such success. She is shutting it down!

    That image screams Ms. Universe.

  26. esteban says:

oh wow!!! and she has a fierce walk too, she looked stunning for blumarine and roberto cavalli!!!!!!

  27. Duncan says:

Her walk is to die for…edgy, not overdone and notable! She’s truly the vogue darling…every month!!!! Remarkable. She is destined for great things. They’re coming her way…you just watch!

  28. DooDiva says:

Kudos to Joan for nabbed the major campaign. Indeed, she is first Puerto Rican to be in great one. :) I’m sure we will see her in it for long haul as long as she is in right place. Congrats, Joan.

  29. Morgane says:

Joan Smalls, Constance Jablonski and Liu Wen for Estée Lauder = the best beauty advertising campaign for so long
