Joan by Mikael Jansson for Interview Magazine September 2010
The unstoppable Joan Smalls keeps things exciting; from her debut on the runways of Givenchy, to her stunning turns in Vogue Italia, there is just something about her that gets your attention. It is no surprise that Ms. Smalls has become the first Puerto Rican face of Estee Lauder, joining Hilary Rhoda, Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski as a global ambassador for the company.

OMG sooooo deserved. I’m excited to see the result of the commercial with Lui, Constance and Joan. I think it’s going to be great.
And then the upcoming Gucci campaign. I hope she’ll be in the (high fashion)game for a long time.

I am telling you guys that Joan is going to be iconic. She can do it all, from Givenchy to Gucci to Estee Lauder, then eventually to Victoria’s Secret. THE Naomi or Tyra of our generation(sorry, Chanel)!!!!!

She’s a timeless beauty. There’s something very old-school (in a good way) glamorous about her. Good for her.

I foresee a top 10 placement on models.com this week and surely when her new campaigns hit she’ll be top 5. Joan is just exquisite and deserves it all. Someone said Joan is the new Chanel. I disagree. Joan is the new face of Estee Lauder and has done many things that Chanel has never done and never will. Joan’s seems genuine. She’s the real deal. I wouldn’t be surprised if she replaced Chanel in VS.

Joan reminds me of the 90′s supermodels…. She has a inmstant star n muse-ness about her. I can imagine her opener and closing either a Balencaiga show or Gucci show to the song “Float On” by Midest Mouse…. I feel bringing that energy back! Yeaaaa!

Joan Smalls NOW ranked #8 on models.com!!!! She deserves a TOP 5!!!!!!!

I agree with someone. Please don’t compare Chanel n Joan.., Joan would win, plus they have two opppsite looks. Also, CHanel is still a little girl! Her face shows it. I think she just now starting to develop into something Chanel is a late bloomer you will see. Joan on the otherhand. Always had it, no one took time to see expect Richardo…but, Joan brings something that Gisele brought back to fashion: a supermodel, household supermodel! Like the girls of the 90′s.m

Kudos to Joan for nabbed the major campaign. Indeed, she is first Puerto Rican to be in great one. :) I’m sure we will see her in it for long haul as long as she is in right place. Congrats, Joan.
