Proenza Schouler Fall/Winter 2013
Proenza Schouler Fall/Winter 2013
Proenza Schouler has officially grown up. After 10 years in the game, fashion’s coolest downtowners, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, have evolved from being the new kids on the block, to leading the pack as purveyors of chic, adult sophistication. Their line’s fall collection was an effervescent mix of graphic pieces with ingenious detailing; leather woven to mimic the look of tweed, chain mail dresses and splattered patterns that dazzled the eye. With nearly forty sleek looks to choose from the collection was a thrilling feast for the eyes. Many of the streamlined shapes and dramatic add-ons were so skillfully constructed they would look right at home on the couture catwalks of Paris.
Naturally, the edge that made buyers, editors and trendsetters fall in love with Proenza in the first place is still there, it’s just glossier than ever before. Last season’s kinetic exploration of collage has been replaced by a starker sensibility; gone are the neons and python patchworks, in their place monochromatic separates and refined outerwear reign supreme. Opening with Sasha Pivovarova in a crisp white cocoon jacket, worn over a jet black pencil skirt is a style statement in and of itself. Throughout the show there were moments of pure delight; surprisingly understated marabou skirts fluttering as models walked, the aforementioned chain mail shifts catching light just so and of course the season’s it accessory, the Lunch Bag emerging on the arm of Chiharu Okunugi. Even the lace laden finale dresses, which deserve to be featured on magazine covers & red carpets everywhere, had an instant visual impact. Suffice to say, Jack and Lazaro have done it again and their appealing runway is as always a harbinger of trends to come.
