Fab,
Thanks for pointing that out!
P.S. you are an idiot.

fab & joe – abiah hostvedt (the model fab is referring to) is norwegian-american and jamaican.
being familiar with collier’s work i wasn’t expecting much in ethnic diversity. having said that this is a great set of pictures considering it’s for a fashion magazine and has such limitations.
very happy to see aleksandra rastovic back – she’s far from being a new face. it would be great if cathy opie shot her for the rodarte project also…

Wow! I didn’t even notice there were no ethnic models in this shoot. Maybe because I was appertaining THE art and beauty of this and not worried for their skin color.

Beautiful work, love Tati Cotliar, this is art, art is free, youth is colorful the same way it’s black and white sometimes and I see all that here, and of course, youth is raceless.

When you’re a New York photographer and you choose to work with mostly white subjects, it’s a calculated choice. So you own it, as I’m sure this photographer does. But those of you who think it’s idiotic to point this choice out need to open your eyes and realize that it’s perfectly natural and not at all PC (as though that’s a bad thing) for people to comment on such a choice.

The celebration of youth is seriously marred by the inclusion of the picture of them smoking. To show off the beauty of the young while they are in the process of self destruction is simply irresponsible. Is it really cool, trendy, edgy, or what ever term one uses to attempt to justify the promotion of smoking? Its not cool, trendy, fashionable, rebellious, its simply stupid. This inclusion shows that the photographer really cares nothing for the young. What a pity.

Where is the color in any of these photos. I do not see one model of any other ethnic origin in ANY of these photos. THIS IS BLATANT racism whether MODELS.com or the FASHION industry recognizes it or not. There are beautiful youthful models of all different backgrounds from asian, african, indian, latin and mixed cultures that are BARELY represented. CHANGE is needed now, with a new face of America with President Obama, it is time that the fashion industry change along with the times it is 2010, not 1910.

This is a work of art in and of itself, the medium being the Web. There were some interesting uses of androgyny and the artistic collages done with some of the pictures were very creative. Somehow the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

There are models whose faces are covered, there are models from Latin America, there are models with ethnic mixtures but they’re all conforming a whole here, there are models smoking cigarettes (and pot, the girl on the sixth set of pictures,it might be a cigarette but i’m sure the photographer knew what he was doing), I wouldn’t look for racial or sexual identities here cos I wont be able to find them.

TATI is the perfect model for androgynous image. She should have worked in the production of GIVENCHY to side LEA T

seen this before but done better by Jamie morgan et al first time around twenty years ago. Boring but still manages to have a pinch of pretentious.

Absolutely love this. While I’m not having a total fit about the lack of diversity – and I mean diversity that is immediately obvious and visible – it would have been nice to see a few more ethnic models. Youth is “raceless”, yes, but the world is not. Nevertheless, I do think it is a fantastic editorial and the lack of diversity really does not detract from that.

I don’t think anyone should be concerned about the color of the models. You should be looking at the photos for the beauty of modeling, rather than how many colored people there are, or how “racist” it is.
Anyway, I think this is beautiful. Amazing work
The models are perfect.

Yeah, ruin youth with smoking…they all look like they have been on drugs for a while..this is not youth, it is sickness and certainly not art

I need to get a pair of glasses, as I cannot see this so called amazing work: the photography is nothing special and the collage is very rough, it looks like the stuff I used to see when I was going to art college. It’s a pity more effort was not put into this shoot.

I love the art direction of this shoot. The layout is great, and the illustrations are fantastic… http://www.chungkitblog.wordpress.com
