Going Gamine

Lisa Cant/T. Photographed by Wee Khim
Only because the business could use a fresh new gamine right about now, it's all eyes on T newcomer, Lisa Cant who has the kind of "beautiful-yet-off" feeling that photographers can't seem to resist. Put her on your list of new faces to see this summer.

As The Fashion World Turns

Eva/1 Mgmt. Photographed by Mario Sorrenti for Vogue Paris May 2003
As the cameras click the final frames on the few remaining FW 03 campaigns...Former MOTW Caroline Trentini/Marilyn grabs one of the Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign berths as Elite's Susan Eldrige repeats as one the Marc Jacobs campaign faces...MDC Top 50 male model face Andres/Q adds the Chanel Allure campaign (ph. Demarchelier) to his FW03 Louis Vuitton score...And as flashed in code back on May 9th, power-stylist and Pop editor Katie Grand is indeed hopping over the pond to take on a gig at Harper's Bazaar, as well as being millimeters away from adding the Calvin Klein ads to her styling roster. CLM is not mad (and that is another bit of code)...Ever had the annoying experience of receiving stunning Polaroids of a newcomer only to find out her proportions less than "ideal"? The amusing feature on the new 1 Management website that allows you to rotate the models for a 360 degree view should offer some welcome perspective. That is if obsessed model groupies don't turn the feature in a online game of "spin the model".

Seeing Csilla

Csilla/IMG. Photographed by Eric Merc
The FW03 wave of new faces have been locked in place, but what of Spring 04? It's not too soon to start marking off the prime choices among the new models set to flood NY this summer. High on MDC's modelwatching charts is IMG's 17 year old Hungarian find, Csilla. When this girl hits town the subsequent bookings should be very interesting.

Kick It

Out with last season's karate trainers and in with this year's wrestling boots. In the eternal search for the next twist in sneaker style, it's the graphic yet layered wrestling visual that is pinning down all the kids. From in-the-mix stylists to globetrotting models it's set to be this summer's shoe. Says MDC's resident trendspotter Kat: "They're practical enough for your martial arts class and cool enough to hang out in. What could be more perfect?"

It Girl #2

Adina/Next. Photo Micheal Thompson for Flair magazine
Current MDC covergirl Julia/Supreme has just about clinched her niche as one of this season's It-Girls . But since there's always two, the hunt is on for that second breakthrough face. It could very well be Next's red hot Adina who surfaces on the current cover of Flair magazine, even as she locks her spot as the second girl in the FW 02 YSL campaign. Will it be IMG's new Prada girl Daria since a Prada campaign always buys its weight in high profile Steven Miesel editorials? Or will Balenciaga babe, Diane Dundoe/IMG with her whip smart intellect, woo the editorial cabal. It might well be Ford's sensational Lilliane who is a triple campaign threat this season(2 of which are Testino gigs). The first is Miu-Miu along with Ana B and Vision's Ann Catherine, the second, Burberry with Kate Moss/IMG, Stella Tennant/DNA, Michele Deswarte/Marilyn and Julie Graz/NY Models. Now add to that Liliane's Only Girl FW 03 ad for BCBG with Roversi, Numero (Demarchelier), Flair (Cometti), W (Sorrenti), Italian Vogue (Greg Kadel, Tom Schenck), V(Inez and Vinooth) and US Vogue (Raymond Meier) are currently clogging Lilliane's charts, and it certainly looks like this might be the girl most wanted. Stay tuned for the final results!

Caroline's Cool

Caroline/Supreme Photo David Chisolm
Another key contender for that second niche as this season's breakthrough face is quite distinctly Supreme's Caroline Winberg, the FW 03 face of Ungaro photographed by Solve Sunsbo. Also under her belt is two forthcoming stories in W Magazine (shot by Ellen von Unwerth and Mert and Marcus), Harper's Bazaar with Peter Lindbergh, Italian Vogue with Thomas Schenck, ID with Damon Heath, V with Max Vadukul, Visionaire with Vanessa Beecroft and Numero with Tom Munro.

Tracking Tiuu

Tiuu/Major. Photo. Jack Grierson
Girl 1 at the FW03 Gucci show, Estonian stunner Tiuu is looking quite major this minute. She's been booking up a storm landing this season's Moschino ad with Mario Testino, Numero and Italian Vogue with Miles Aldridge, British Vogue with Corrine Day as well as freshly confirming Italian Vogue with Tom Schenk. And all this at the tender age of 16 . Put an asterik beside her name for the S/S 04 shows.

On Kemp

Kemp Ph. by Terry Richardson for Japanese Vogue
She's got V, Sisley, Tommy Jeans, Teen Vogue, Japanese Vogue with Terry Richardson clogging up her charts. Fresh out of Georgia, the all-American teenager named Kemp has the kind of on camera enthusiasm that could make her a contender...And to end the speculation one of the two new Gucci girls is indeed Dewi... former Elite MOTW Brenda joins 1's Eva Herzigova on Steven Klein's Baby Phat set ...Expect to see Elite's impending MVP Linda V featured as one of FW02's Miu Miu girls...In other news...Despite last year's attempt at a casting change, Women's Carmen Kass renews the Dior J'Adore contract . Which must mean the girl moves product...We've been warned under penalty of death not to spill the (yet to be copyrighted) details but it seems a certain Brit power editor is getting ready to make her mark on the US market. As if there's so much room no?

This Year's Chair

He's done it again. Right on the heels of the hilarious "Louis Ghost" Phillipe Starck has emerged with what might very well be this year's chair. The willfully awkward "Kong", is fashioned out of brushed aluminum and comes with one arm or two depending on how awkward you want to get. If the idea of sitting in "Kong's" hard metal seat fazes you then by all means order it with an upholstered leather seat or back. But order fast, estimated deliveries start at the end of June and there is of course, an impressive waiting list already forming. Gives new meaning to the expression "so ugly it's beautiful" doesn't it!

Mor! Mor! Mor!

Mor/1 Mgmt. Ph Courtesy 1 Mgmt
You've glimpsed her in V magazine photographed by Max Vadakul and Thomas Nutzel and will see her featured in a forthcoming issues of Mixte magazine snapped by Cedric Buchet as well as The Face with Laura Sciovelli and Katie Grand. It looks like Mor is 1's latest winner joining former MOTW Amina (lensing Valentino Red with Steven Meisel), Liberty Ross (Jitrois, Armani) and Daniela Urzi (Hugo Boss, Express). Interestingly enough it's Eva Herzigova for this season's Baby Phat campaign being lensed for the first time by Steven Klein. Add to that the renewal of Naomi Campbell for Roc A Wear (this season she's joined by Carmen Kass) and it looks like it's the "urban " brands who are still dishing out top dollars on supermodels, recession or no.

Marilyn's Moment

Ciara/Marilyn Ph. Michel Momy for ID Magazine
Don't look now but a quick glance at the overall Marilyn campaign tally signals an agency in the first wave of a resurgence. From Ai Tominaga landing a Gucci fragrance campaign with Mert n Marcus, to newcomers like Ciara Nugent (bowing in for Chanel accessories), Tetyana (Celine) and Leigh Yaeger (Genny, Mac, Top Shop), to former MOTW Ana Bela ( Gap, Levi's, Express and M.A.C) and Nina Oord (D&G), it's looking quite busy at this shop. The next four months should be quite interesting indeed....In other news...In a surprise move it's Nick Knight who gets the nod for this year's Pirelli calender, which should guarantee addded collecter's value to this year's project...And Flair magazine might not want to get too comfortable on the Italian market as Conde Nast is all set to strike back with the launch of Italian Vanity Fair.
