Peter Do Exits Helmut Lang
Peter Do is stepping down as creative director of Helmut Lang after joining the brand in 2023. Reflecting on his tenure, Do said, “I want to express my gratitude to my Helmut Lang team, who have been integral in supporting my vision. It’s been an incredible journey to be tasked to carry on the legacy of Helmut Lang. I would like to give special thanks to Kazumi for this opportunity of a lifetime and an experience that I will never forget.” Do’s final collection for the brand will be Pre-Fall 2025, marking the end of a chapter that sought to redefine Helmut Lang’s celebrated minimalist heritage. Known for its sharp tailoring, the brand had been without a dedicated creative director for years prior to Do’s appointment, relying instead on a studio team. During his tenure, Do introduced four collections that emphasized clean lines, modern tailoring, and subtle nods to Helmut Lang’s aesthetic. His debut Spring/Summer 2024 collection garnered mixed reviews. [Vogue]

Tapestry Withdraws from Capri Holdings Acquisition
Tapestry has withdrawn from its $8.5 billion acquisition of Capri Holdings, the owner of Michael Kors, following legal challenges that derailed its plans to create a U.S. luxury powerhouse capable of competing with European giants like LVMH and Kering. The proposed merger would have united six major brands under one umbrella: Tapestry’s Coach, Kate Spade, and Stuart Weitzman, alongside Capri’s Versace, Jimmy Choo, and Michael Kors. However, the deal faced significant regulatory hurdles earlier this year, with U.S. antitrust authorities intervening. Last month, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) officially blocked the merger, arguing that it would “eliminate head-to-head competition between the top two handbag makers and create a massive company with the power to unfairly raise prices.” Following the announcement, Tapestry’s stock rose more than 12% to a decade high of $57.47, driven by the company’s announcement of a $2 billion share buyback program. Capri, on the other hand, saw its shares rise nearly 5% as the company outlined a cost-cutting strategy that includes workforce reductions and store closures. Capri’s stock has lost nearly half its value since a U.S. judge blocked the merger and Tapestry has indicated that it does not anticipate pursuing any acquisitions in the near future. The company also confirmed it would reimburse Capri approximately $45 million for expenses related to the failed merger. [Reuters]
