Peter Hawkings Exits Tom Ford, Sergio Rossi Taps Paul Andrew, and more news you missed

Peter Hawkings Exits Tom Ford
The game of creative director musical chairs continues as Peter Hawkings exits Tom Ford. Hawkings debuted his first collection as the brand’s creative director last September during Milan Fashion Week. According to WWD, a source mentioned that there was “no specific element that triggered” Hawkings’ departure, but rather a combination of reasons, including a “lack of chemistry” with the designer’s team. Hawkings’ career with Tom Ford began in 1998 when he worked as a menswear design assistant at Gucci, eventually rising to senior men’s designer. He joined Ford in 2006 to help launch the brand’s eponymous label, overseeing menswear design and production, and later expanding into accessories like eyewear, bags, shoes, and jewelry. Hawkings became the senior vice president of Tom Ford menswear and was chosen by Ford as his successor, with Ford praising him as “an incredibly talented leader with tremendous industry experience.” Hawkings’ collections received mixed reviews, some critics described them as restrained and “not daring enough.” The future of the brand under the Ermenegildo Zegna Group, which oversees Tom Ford’s fashion business, remains a topic of interest. Karen Harvey, CEO of her eponymous advisory services and executive search firm, suggested that Zegna might recognize that not all menswear creative directors seamlessly transition into women’s fashion and hinted that appointing a female creative director could strengthen the brand’s commitment to women’s empowerment. Tom Ford’s Spring 2025 collection will be showcased in Milan, with a new creative director to be announced later. [WWD]

Sergio Rossi Taps Paul Andrew
Paul Andrew has been appointed the new creative director of Sergio Rossi, the footwear brand under the Lanvin Group. The company announced that the English-born designer began his new role on Tuesday. This position marks Andrew’s return to Italy, three years after his tenure at Salvatore Ferragamo ended in 2021. Andrew said, “I am honoured and delighted to join Sergio Rossi, a world-renowned house of shoemaking whose roots and legacy speak to the lasting power of Italian savoir faire. And I look forward to building upon Sergio Rossi’s own unique spirit of innovation and high craft as we propose a bright new vision for the brand today.” Andrew relocated to New York in his 20s, where he worked for designers such as Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, and Narciso Rodriguez. He founded his eponymous line in 2013, winning the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund the following year. In 2016, Salvatore Ferragamo (later renamed Ferragamo) selected him to design its women’s shoes. By the end of 2017, he was also leading women’s ready-to-wear alongside menswear design director Guillaume Meilland. In 2019, as the company’s revenues grew to €1.38 billion, Andrew was promoted to creative director. However, after a challenging period during the first year of the pandemic, he left Salvatore Ferragamo in 2021 and subsequently revived his brand. Helen Wright, CEO of Sergio Rossi, said in a statement, “He brings a deep respect for our brand heritage, an instinctive understanding of our diverse audiences, and above all a vibrant creativity that will capture the imagination of the Sergio Rossi woman of today and tomorrow.” [Vogue]
