Peter Do x Banana Republic, The Met’s Costume Institute’s Upcoming Exhibit, and More News You Missed

Peter Do Is Collaborating With Banana Republic
New York-based designer and Helmut Lang‘s recently appointed creative director, Peter Do is collaborating with Banana Republic. This upcoming capsule collection is set to feature a range of genderless utility clothing, including structured outerwear, soft knitwear, and utility silk shirting – all featured in Do’s signature neutral color palette. Do said, “I feel like the industry is going through sort of a collaboration exhaustion, and I didn’t want to add any more to that conversation if I didn’t have anything new to say. If we do this, I said, we have to do it in a way where we don’t sacrifice any design integrity.” The partnership with Do is set to significantly enhance the brand’s visibility within the luxury market. The collection is slated to launch online and in select Banana Republic stores this coming October, heralding a fresh chapter for the brand’s creative direction. [Vogue]

The Met’s Costume Institute’s New Exhibition “Women Dressing Women” Is Coming
The Met’s Costume Institute is preparing for a new exhibition titled “Women Dressing Women.” This exhibition aims to illuminate the impact of female designers who have left a significant mark on 20th-century fashion. Opening its doors on December 7th, the exhibit will display 80 carefully selected pieces from the museum’s extensive collections. Among the prominent designers taking center stage are Claire McCardell, Miuccia Prada, Madeleine Vionnet, Vivienne Westwood, Gabriela Hearst, Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, Ann Lowe, Adèle Henriette Nigrin Fortuny, Isabel Toledo, Yeohlee Teng, and Pia Davis and Autumn Randolph of No Sesso. The focus of “Women Dressing Women” will encompass themes of anonymity, visibility, agency, and absence/omission. The exhibition will commence by curating pieces that spotlight the legacy of anonymous dressmakers who paved the way for today’s renowned eponymous designers. The spotlight will also shine on standout pieces by illustrious figures such as Sarah Burton, Gabrielle Chanel, Ann Demeulemeester, Elizabeth Hawes, and Jeanne Lanvin, among others. Embracing a perspective of collaboration and sustainability, the exhibition will also showcase the contributions of designers who prioritize these values such as Iris Van Herpen, Hillary Taymour for Collina Strada, Anifa Mvuemba for Hanifa, Norma Kamali, Ester Manas, Jamie Okuma, Simone Rocha, Marine Serre, and many more will have their work featured, showcasing the evolving landscape of fashion.
