Tom Ford’s Final Collection Is Here, Paper Magazine Lay Offs, and More News You Missed

Tom Ford’s Final Collection Is Here
In 2010, Vogue announced a spread called “Mr. Ford Returns” in their December issue. It provided a first glimpse at Tom Ford‘s spring 2011 collection and marked his return to the runway following his departure from Gucci in 2004. The feature showcased his women’s ready-to-wear debut looks, with models Joan Smalls, Karen Elson, and Amber Valletta. Now, 13 years later, Tom Ford bids farewell to his eponymous brand with a cinematic campaign shot by Steven Klein. The campaign features top models, including Smalls, Elson, and Valletta, and marks the end of his tenure following Estée Lauder’s acquisition of the brand for $2.8 billion. Ford takes a trip down memory lane, revisiting some of his favorite archive looks that are showcased throughout Ford’s final fall 2023 collection. [Vogue]

Paper Magazine Lays Off Entire Editorial Staff
Paper Magazine laid off its entire editorial staff, comprising more than 20 people, on Wednesday, marking an end of an era for the publication. Founded in 1984, Paper was a pop culture staple, especially after the 2014 cover featuring a naked Kim Kardashian shot by French photographer, designer, and artist Jean-Paul Goude. According to WWD, the cover generated more than 70 million monthly unique visitors to Papermag.com. Mickey Boardman the former editorial director of the publication who joined in 1992 said, “right up until the last day, the team was creating amazing, unique content, and I leave just as big a fan of Paper as I was after reading my first issue (The Sandra Bernhard Jewish Star issue).” However, like many other publications, Paper has struggled to keep up with ad revenue in recent years. Despite this setback, the publication insists that it is not shutting down but rather “seeking to cut costs as it looks toward alternative options to remain in operation.” [Ad Week] [WWD]

Charles de Vilmorin and Rochas Part Ways
Rochas has parted ways with creative director Charles de Vilmorin after a two-year run. De Vilmorin was selected as the brand’s creative director less than a year after launching his own fashion label during the COVID-19 pandemic and made his runway debut for Rochas in September 2021. The 26-year-old designer was a finalist for the 2021 LVMH Prize for Young Designers and was shortlisted for the ANDAM Prize that same year, with many calling him the new Yves Saint Laurent. Prior to De Vilmorin’s appointment, Rochas had been without a head designer since Alessandro Dell’Acqua, who showcased his last collection for the brand in February 2020. In 2015, Interparfums bought the Rochas fashion and fragrance activity from Procter & Gamble Co. for $108 million. Philippe Benacin, CEO of Interparfums SA, said, “We would like to thank Charles for his contribution to the legacy of Rochas. His creative vision will have a long-lasting impact on the brand’s universe.” [WWD]
