School is In Session at Nigo’s Sophomore Showing at Kenzo

For his second collection for Kenzo, artistic director Nigo continued to build on his debut rollout of amplifying traditional American workwear for Spring/Summer 2023. The youthful collection brought in elements of founder Kenzo Takada’s legacy who worked with annual themes, instead of seasonally. That meant familiar Kenzo codes like the red Boke flower motif, old Kenzo labels sewn onto pieces, and dialing up his laser focus on what Japan does best: denim. The youthfulness also spread with the school messaging of uniforms, sailor clothes, and varsity jackets which is a callback to the sartorial connection between France and Japan. With a cast picked by Piergiorgio Del Moro and Samuel Ellis Scheinman of DMCASTING, French Japanese model Mika Schneider led the show opening, followed by Maty Fall, Sherry Shi, Topsy , Chloe Oh, Ottawa Kwami, Issa Naciri, and with Japanese model Kayako Higuchi closing. The celeb studded front row came in droves to support Nigo including Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, Chloe Cherry, Jaden Smith, Cruz Beckham and Snoh Aalegra. Two collections down and a compilation album in a single year. What more can you expect for the multi-hyphenate creative?
