Laiza de Moura Has Been Manifesting Major Runway Moments

Brazilian Laiza de Moura represents a new surge of talent from the region, dominating the international markets in a distinctly impactful way. Her Saint Laurent semi-exclusive runway debut right before the pandemic began kickstarted her international career, with major moments since then landing covetable spots walking for Balenciaga, Chanel, Versace, Hermès, Miu Miu, Loewe, and Sacai. She’s now kicked things into high gear with editorials in Vogue Brazil, The Face, The Perfect Magazine, and advertisements for the brand that started it all, Saint Laurent, shot by Juergen Teller. Models.com spoke to the model briefly before she headed home for the holidays about her recent walk for Chanel Metiers D’Art 2022, being scouted in a pet shop, and working in the European market.

How was the experience walking the recent Chanel Pre-Fall 2022 Metiers D’Art Show?
The first Chanel show I did, I was the 5th to walk. 5 is a historic Chanel number and I couldn’t help but associate with Marilyn Monroe who said she wore nothing but the five drops of Chanel to sleep. My second show was [last week] for Metiers D’Art 2022, and I jumped up a few places and walked second! Can I already start dreaming of opening the next fashion show? Why not? But seriously…no wonder Chanel is the iconic brand that it is. What a beautiful show and what an attentive and elegant team. It was truly an honor.

Where are you from and how did you get scouted at first?
I was scouted in the center of Rio de Janeiro, where I was born, in a pet shop where I worked for two years, amongst accessories for Poodles and Yorkshires. Somehow in that environment, I caught the attention of a scout.

I’m sure you have so many, but what have been your most favorite moments in your career since you started working in the European market?
So hard to pick individual moments as for each client it’s different and there is so much history that it’s hard to compare. In general, when I arrived in Paris two years ago I realized the big opportunity that lay ahead. Living it and the trips that I’ve been able to take, the iconic brands I’ve been able to work with, and amazing teams I come to know and call friends has all been very special. I’m just excited about everything I can still see, feel, and experience.

When you’re not modeling, what mostly takes up your time?
When I’m not modeling I’m out of a routine. I’m usually with friends. traveling, reading, etc. I like to have fun and take time off but I’m very active and I like to go out and find things to keep me interested.

What’s one thing people may be surprised to find out about you?
I’m the cook of my family or actually whatever group I’m in! I like to make everything from pasta to lemon pie but I am famous for my coxinha and actually love to cook Brazilian cuisine in general. I don’t think anyone could imagine that I cook in my spare time!
