Phoebe Philo Returns, Valentino to Venice and more of the news you missed

Phoebe Philo’s Big Return
After leaving Céline and a three-year hiatus, British fashion designer Phoebe Philo announced her triumphant return with a new eponymous line backed by LVMH as a minority stakeholder. Her minimalist restructuring of the once flailing Céline brought huge success with BOF reporting the designer’s collections lifted annual sales from €200 million to more than €700 million by 2017 when she left. There’s not much information on when to expect the new clothing and accessories collection outside of more information will be unveiled in January 2022 but LVMH is undoubtedly eager to rehash Philo’s previous success. Philophiles will be waiting with bated breath. [BOF]

Valentino Staged An Epic Couture Show in Venice
Venice was home to Valentino’s couture show that celebrated a new Renaissance of unseen artisans of couture with 17 artist collaborations, curated by artist Kerstin Brätsch and writer Gianluigi Ricuperati, including Jamie Nares, Luca Coser, Francis Offman, Andrea Respino, and Wu Rui. Fitting that in the capital of such deep-rooted art history, Pierpaolo Piccioli would unveil another lesson in color theory as a cascade of eveningwear in bubblegum pink, chartreuse, sunshine yellow, blooming violet, and signature Valentino red went down the all-white runway with floating, feathered chapeaus to match from milliner Philip Treacy. Over 80 joyfully over-the-top looks, donned by women and men (that’s now 2 seasons in a row that Piccioli has presented men’s couture) including Anok Yai, Maricarla Boscono, Mika Schneider, Mona Tougaard, Maty Fall, Teddy Corsica, and Ottawa Kwami were presented in a maximalist unveiling that left a lasting impression.
