10th anniversaries are an important milestone for any brand, but when you’re celebrating one of the most successful collaborations in fashion history, it takes on a special importance. Back in 2002 when sports giant Adidas and fashion legend Yohji Yamamoto joined forces, the pairing seemed unusual, but the venture has grown into the kind of thoughtful merger of art and commerce that other brands seek to emulate. Y-3‘s inception was a turning point for the fashion business and has consistently been a critically acclaimed enterprise.

Yamamoto’s S/S 13 offerings did not disappoint and the elusive designer’s presence at the show was an added bonus. On the runway tailored looks for men and women seemed more refined than ever. The sporty vibe and witty plays on Adidas’ signature stripes were still there, but the clothes were dressier, with an added polish. Even the experimental pieces seemed wearable and straight forward enough to have a universal appeal, they certainly impressed the front row celebrities, including David Beckham. All in all there was a joyous mood in the air; when you’ve stood the test of time for 20 plus seasons, it’s time to celebrate.
