Jason Wu F/W 15

When Jason Wu kicked off his fall show with Rianne van Rompaey in head to toe olive drab and then proceed to send out four models in a row sporting the autumnal hue he made a subtle but powerful statement. This may be a season defined by streamlined uniformity, but let’s not forget the glamour. If any designer can provide a compelling perspective on modern luxury it’s Jason Wu and with this collection he took an almost pragmatic approach to ultra-luxe dressing. There was plenty of fur and no shortage of sequins, but each and every piece on Wu’s runway was wearable and understated. It is easy to imagine his high profile clientele strutting into the boardroom or onto the red carpet in these pieces and that’s the point.

Rather than delving into fantasy Wu centered his wares around the ideals of strength and seduction- powerful ideas that have always captivated the designer, but truly shined here. Who wouldn’t feel strong when sheathed in the armor-esque crocodile casing Amanda Murphy sported. It doesn’t get more seductive than a barely there spaghetti strapped column in cherry red, worn by Julia Hafstrom. The dress in question elicited countless stares, but the true show-stopper was Tami William’s transparent wisp of a LBD which flirted with nudity without ever seeming crass. Though Wu focused much of his attention on daywear and tailored outwear he couldn’t resist sneaking in a few moments of unadulterated evening elegance; keep your eyes peeled for the black beaded gown on Waleska Gorczevski come Oscar night.
