3.1 Phillip Lim S/S 2015
Spring/Summer is always an especially lovely season for Phillip Lim, the designer consistently manages to strike the right balance between breezy carefree and unselfconsciously hip and the ease of spring’s mood seems to suit him. This season was no exception and Lim turned out another on well edited series of looks that is certain to connect with his core client – which is great considering that said clients just got treated to a brand new 3.1 Phillip Lim boutique on Great Jones Street. We can already see lithe girls placing pre-orders for the quilted and sculptural opening look on Alexandra Elizabeth, or the collection’s geometric Quill bags which took the current love of bucket purses to the next level.
With all the intricate brocade and detailed quilting spotted on Lim’s runway one might jump to the conclusion that the inspiration points back to some obscure reference point. The collection boasts a decadent feel, but Lim’s source material hits a little closer to home. While undertaking a reno of his own Lim was Inspired by the intimacy of bedroom interiors. Lim’s jump from decor to design would make for an exceedingly interesting HGTV special, especially given how successful the final collection was. On the exquisite cast each piece came to life and the rich detailing added a layer of grandeur to Lim’s daywear. From the trellis cloche pieces, to the multi-dimensional embroidered dresses covered in abstract patterns, each element worked together to form one of the season’s loveliest runway events.
