LA CONFIDENTIAL Gap, Gucci, Vogue Italia: in a steady trickle, a flock of very powerful lensmen have been redirecting several crucial campaigns and covers away from New York to that other quintessential metropolis: LA. Now that Steven Meisel has relocated there, and with Alexi Hay and Mario Testino conducting more and more of their shoots in the City Of Angels, it seems NYs primacy as an American fashion capital is being challenged. Add to the formula, the lure of Hollywood and the New West Coast Cool being pioneered by the likes of husband and wife auteurs, Sofia Coppola and Spike Jonz, and the trickle looks set to be a stream. Watch your friendly style-bible for feature stories on this seismic shift. STEVENS INCLINE No this is not another (sigh) Meisel mention but concerns razor sharp lensman Steven Kleins ascension to what many consider to be photographer heaven. In a stunning career move, it appears Klein has been conscripted to shoot for American Vogue, a well deserved pinnacle to a very committed career. In between his eagerly anticipated CK campaign and his rather daring work in the current issue of Dutch, it looks like Klein has all the bases, both commercial and edge, quite covered (Though the model in his Dutch spread didnt).
