Not at all Which
is why what you do works. Its challenging but its not...self-deluded that "Fashion is
Art'
Well you have to have a blend of the art and the business.
There're days when I'll sit there and I'll fight for fashion as art to the death. Then
there're other days when I'm sitting there and I'm thinking" God,I gotta sell
something." (laughter).I am disappointed though that we can't develop the underground
designers out of New York. And I think that my goal for the next year is going to be to
try to do something about that.I think we should be
showing before Europe, just for the common business
sense.Lets forget about the "who's-ripping-off-European- designers"
conversation which is too boring, I'm just thinking production-wise. More often than
not, we have to order the fabrics from Europe, it takes longer for it to get on over
here...it has to sit in customs for at least 10 days. If anybody in the production end of
the business should be showing first it should be the United States. That's my battle cry
for the next coupla years. I'm really ready to push that. I think that whether you think
the US is derivative of this or derivative of that is neither here nor there. But just in
terms of, "How can the United States develop that type of designer that is
internationally recognized, one of the ways that we can take that step is just simply to
show first. That's it! |
