Fashion is all well and good, but for a good portion of the population their interest in models begins and ends with a little magazine called Sports Illustrated. The annual swimsuit issue is one of the year’s most talked about covers and an appearance inside its pages can elevate a model from pretty face, to household name. This year’s cover girl is the voluptuous Kate Upton, whose vintage starlet proportions have set tongues wagging. Inside the mag’s pages the radiant Alyssa Miller reigns supreme with page after page of bikini shots that will end up pinned to walls across the country. MDC takes you inside the world of SI with a glimpse at last night’s stellar shindig in celebration of the latest edition.

MDC: So Kate, what are you looking forward to?
Kate: I can’t wait to be on the Ellen show, I’m a huge fan. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun; she loves to dance, I love to dance, I can’t wait. I’m also very excited to be in Vegas with all the girls, we always have so much fun together.

MDC: Alyssa, this is your 2nd time shooting for Sports Illustrated; what was something you learned from your first shoot that you brought into this one?
Alyssa: The first time around I was really nervous! But I quickly learned how lovely the whole team is, and they made me feel as comfortable as possible. So for my second shoot I tried to just relax and not take anything too seriously, and just have fun! And in the pictures and video you can definitely tell how much fun I am having, and I love that!

MDC: Where did your shoot take place and what were the most fun/most challenging aspects of the location?
Alyssa: I shot on Deroches Island in the Seychelles, it was a very secluded private island. What was so nice was that we were literally the only people on the beach. I guess the few challenges would have been the small beach, it was only a few feet of sand before you hit the water. There wasn’t a lot to work with. Also the only mode of transportation on the island was bikes! So we had to borrow their tractor to carry the equipment!

  1. amazing !! im pretty sure the sports illustrated swimsuit issue was the whole reason i got into photography ….

  2. I’m sorry but Kate Upton is a joke. I think all these SI girls give models a bad name. And I hate that everyone is calling her a supermodel! How can you be a supermodel when your only claim to fame is a youtube video of yourself doing the dougie?! When she gets a Vogue Paris cover, then we can talk supermodel. But campaigns for Guess and Beach Bunny (which are a TOTAL copy of Natasha Poly’s Vogue Paris editorial in 2010) do not a supermodel make.

  3. Kate’s been all over the media lately and I caught a segment of her strutting the catwalk in bikini. The way her chest moves when she walks you tend to not look below her face and chest…Just ur typical guy’s observation.

  4. In response to John – I hear from a bird that Kate has shot a Major Vogue cover with one of the top photographers in the industry.

  5. Lance-

Good for her. But even if she’s shooting for Vogue Paris (which I highly doubt) it doesn’t change the fact; supermodels like Gisele and Kate Moss have been on hundreds of magazine covers. Upton has been on what, 4? And they’re all men’s magazines. Big difference in my opinion.

  6. Kate looks good in that picture, her cover is a complete joke however.. the cover was photoshopped so pathetically that her head isnt even from the same photograph

  7. Why would anyone call her a joke? Lets see YOUR magazine cover! Oh you aren’t on one? That’s what I thought.

  8. Kate Upton is one of the most Buetiful women alive now no brainer she’ll get haters love every thing about her
