Hedi Slimane Exits Celine
After seven years, Hedi Slimane is stepping down as creative director at Celine. The house released a statement praising his leadership, noting, “Under his creative and artistic direction, Celine has experienced exceptional growth and established itself as an iconic French couture house.” Michael Rider, who previously served as the brand’s design director of ready-to-wear from 2008 to 2018 under Phoebe Philo and then went on to lead as creative director of Polo Ralph Lauren, will succeed Slimane. His return marks a significant shift, as he steps back into a house that has evolved under Slimane’s distinct vision. Slimane’s departure comes just three days after unveiling his Spring 2025 women’s collection via a 10-minute film broadcast on Celine’s website and social platforms. There’s no official word yet on where Slimane will go next. [WWD]
Filippo Grazioli Steps Down as Creative Director of Missioni
After two years as Missoni’s creative director, Filippo Grazioli has stepped down to pursue “new creative and artistic challenges.” He will be replaced by long-time company veteran Alberto Caliri, who previously held the role on an interim basis after Angela Missoni stepped down in 2021 due to a management reshuffle. Caliri, a trusted figure within the brand, will now permanently take the reins as Missoni looks to the future. Grazioli, who joined the family-owned label in 2022, led the men’s and women’s collections, as well as the lifestyle division. Prior to Missoni, he built his career working with industry heavyweights like Burberry and Givenchy under Riccardo Tisci. Reflecting on his departure, Grazioli stated, “It has been an honour and a privilege to be part of Missoni. I am proud of the achievements and the experiences shared with the entire team. I am now ready to face new challenges and explore new frontiers.” [Vogue]
MM6 Maison Margiela Is The Next Guest Designer at Pitti Uomo
MM6 Maison Margiela will be a guest designer at the upcoming Pitti Uomo, scheduled to run from January 14th to 17th at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence. Setchu, the brand founded by Satoshi Kuwata, will host its inaugural runway show in Florence as part of the menswear fair. The MM6 Maison Margiela design team stated, “We are honored and excited to be invited as Pitti Uomo’s guest designer this coming January, as part of the world’s most important menswear fashion fair. We intend to bring the style and spirit of MM6, creating a menswear project specifically for Florence. After nearly 20 years, we are thrilled to return Maison Margiela to the Pitti stage and present a contemporary menswear wardrobe that resonates with the attitude, concepts, and processes of MM6.” [WWD]
LVMH Sells Off-White
LVMH sold Off-White, founded by the late designer Virgil Abloh, to Bluestar Alliance, which owns brands such as Scotch & Soda, Elie Tahari, Bebe, and Hurley. In 2021, LVMH increased its minority stake to gain control of Off-White for an undisclosed amount, shortly before Abloh’s passing. Unfortunately, continuing Off-White’s legacy has proven challenging without its founder, especially amid the current slowdown in the luxury market and declining demand for streetwear. Moreover, while LVMH’s purchase granted it ownership of the Off-White trademarks, the label’s operating company—of which LVMH also holds a minority stake—still maintains a licensing agreement with New Guards Group, owned by the struggling online retailer Farfetch. This licensing deal is set for renegotiation next year, presenting a potential opportunity for change. [Financial Times]
