Clarks Taps Martine Rose, Ludovic de Saint Sernin Exits Ann Demeulemeester, and More News You Missed

Clarks Taps Martine Rose as a Guest Designer
Shoe manufacturer Clarks has selected British Jamaican menswear designer Martine Rose as its first guest designer. The conversation between Clarks and Rose began last year, leading to her visit to the company’s headquarters in Somerset. During her visit, she familiarized herself with the company’s rich history and the shoe production process at Clarks. Clarks shoes are a common staple in British households, often worn by children for school. With a focus on comfort, Rose incorporated her unique style into three shoe designs, using signature Clark elements such as loafers, Oxford shoes, and sandals. Tara McRae, chief marketing and digital officer at Clarks, said, “Martine was top of our list of guest creative directors to partner with due to her unconventional approach to design and development and her British-Jamaican background, both of which are core to our brand.” [WWD]

Ludovic de Saint Sernin Exits Ann Demeulemeester
Ludovic de Saint Sernin has stepped down as the creative director of Ann Demeulemeester after debuting one collection. His highly anticipated F/W 23 collection premiered in Paris this past March, captivating audiences with its sensually minimalist gender-fluid aesthetic. The collection’s immense success even played a role in fortifying partnerships with renowned stockists like MyTheresa. Notably, Hunter Schafer wore a striking look from the collection at Vanity Fair’s Oscar party, further cementing the brand’s influence. Previously, the Ann Demeulemeester label was run by its in-house creative design team. As of now, the industry eagerly awaits news on the appointment of the brand’s next creative director. [BoF]
