Thom Browne Wins Stripes Trademark Lawsuit Against Adidas
Thom Browne has won its trademark case against Adidas. Yesterday, an eight-person jury came back with a verdict that stated that the CFDA chair was not culpable “for damages or profits that it made selling product with four stripes or its trademark Grosgrain ribbon.” Adidas America and Adidas AG were seeking compensation of over $7.8 million, the amount the companies agreed it would have gained in licensing fees from Thom Browne Inc. if the two had collaborated together, as well as profits “it alleges the American designer made from selling apparel and footwear with stripes.” A Thom Browne spokesperson said, “We are pleased that the jury found that at no time did Thom Browne Inc. infringe on any of Adidas’ trademarks. For over 20 years now, Thom Browne has been a pioneering force in luxury fashion, bringing a wholly unique and distinctive design aesthetic that combines classic tailoring with American sportswear sensibilities. We look forward to continuing to design and provide the creative products that have become the hallmark of the Thom Browne label.” [WWD]

Louis Vuitton Taps KidSuper
Luxury French house Louis Vuitton has selected Brooklyn-based designer KidSuper, aka Colm Dillane as their guest designer for the brand’s upcoming menswear show during Paris Fashion Week on January 19. Dillane has been working on pieces at the brand’s Parisian studio for a few months. According to The New York Times, Dillane said, “You never think a brand as big as Louis Vuitton would be willing to take such a risk. I thought there would be so many rules about what I was or wasn’t allowed to do, but I was given the candy shop. They let me have a hand in every aspect — clothing, bags, shoes, and accessories. It’s wild.” [NYT]
