Vivienne Westwood Passes, Amy Hauk Exits Victoria’s Secret, and More of the News You Missed

Vivienne Westwood Passes at 81
Punk fashion icon Vivienne Westwood known for her groundbreaking vision, passed away on December 29th, 2022, at 81. Westwood was more than a fashion designer and, as an activist, used her designs to display her commentary on politics and environmental issues throughout her long-lasting career. The Brit got her start in the industry by opening up a boutique in 1971 in Chelsea, London, with Malcolm McLaren, the manager of the Sex Pistols, with the band and the New York Dolls often wearing Westwood’s designs. With each early collection she designed came a different store name, from “Let It Rock”, “Too Fast to Live, Too Young to Die,” to “Sex,” “Seditionaries,” and “World’s End.” In 1981, Westwood went on to debut her first-ever collection, and fast forward to the 90s, married Austrian design student Andreas Kronthaler, who became her life and work partner for over two decades. Hearing about her passing, the fashion community rallied to honor Westwood, with Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, and Edward Enniful speaking on The Queen of Punk’s legacy in the industry. [WWD]
