Brands Cancel Shows To Commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s Passing
Due to the news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death at age 96 on Thursday, brands that were set to debut their S/S 23 collections at London Fashion Week postponed or canceled their shows today. Burberry and Raf Simons announced their cancellations out of respect for the royal family with many awaiting another possible cancellation blow from J.W. Anderson. In the retail space, British retailers Selfridges and Liberty closed their stores today to join in the nation’s mourning. The British Fashion Council acknowledges that fashion month presentations and collections must continue but said, “we are asking that designers respect the mood of the nation and period of national mourning by considering the timing of their image release.” The period of national mourning lasts for ten days, starting on September 9th.
