Christopher John Rogers Took a Maximalist Approach to Beauty

It was the Baton Rouge–born, Brooklyn-based designer Christopher John Rogers runway debut this New York fashion week and the outcome was an over-the-top celebration of eveningwear in sensible neon colors, worn to stand out. A stellar, inclusive casting involved every shape, age, gender, and shade imaginable authentic to his vision of modern glamour. The 2019 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist received a standing ovation for the colorful presentation but what really stood out was the eye-catching beauty looks that equally matched the demi-couture. Led by hairstylist Naeemah Lafond and makeup artist Marcelo Gutierrez, models sported whimsical Dr. Seuss hair looks, negative-space lips, and Swarovski crystal embellishments on their face resembling sparkly freckles.
