Come to the altar of this diptych display where strands mimic Renaissance sculptures that only photographer,
Alexandra Von Fuerst can provide. With cinematic visuals, the latest MDCBeauty story provides a conduit into a fantasy world of red, white, and black hues. With a delicate hand, hairstylist Olivier Schawalder curls and coils model Unia Pakhomova tresses into polished chignons of the ornate sort. A ruffle here, some lace there; Pakhomova solidly frames these delicate selects with an unflinching, slightly sinister gaze. Every rose has its thorn.

Paris was mostly dreary in January and most models stuck to dressing for the weather: peacoats, bomber jackets, shearling jackets, leather jackets, with a bit of vintage/70’s Balenciaga influence as well. Couture picked up with models wearing more colors and aspects to shoot such as the always ethereal hair and makeup at Margiela (by Pat McGrath and Eugene Souleiman). New York Fashion Week Men’s was short but (the street style) was surprisingly good with a models showing the variations of New York style. A highlight was the gender-bending Palomo show from Spain. A week later, New York Fashion Week kicked off with a blizzard. Models bundled up but still dressed for the street style photographers when they could. London followed as usual, much calmer than the other cities, and Milan proceeded with the usual spectacle outside the influencer heavy Dolce & Gabbana show as well as the first men’s and women’s combined Gucci show. Paris was beautiful but rainy. My best street style photos came from the Dior and Balenciaga shows. By the time the Men’s Spring/Summer 2018 and Couture Fall/Winter 2017 shows came in June, the weather was wonderful. J.W. Anderson and Off-White presented at Pitti Uomo in Florence which included beautiful backdrops such as Palazzo Pitti and the private residence Villa La Pietra. Milan men’s fashion week continued to become shorter and Paris men’s fashion week combined more men’s and women’s shows adding some variety to the street style. Couture was exciting to shoot with the addition of Proenza Schouler and Rodarte from New York. As for the street style, menswear was fanny-pack galore and filled with streetwear including models who were designing their own lines. Couture week was filled with easy-going summer wear – dresses, jumpsuits, blazers, and more. Margiela was exciting as usual – Teddy Quinlivan exited the show in Eugene Souleiman’s half-washed foamy hairstyle and the metallic lipstick by Pat McGrath, straight from the runway.
