Precious Lee On Reaching New Supers Status With Poise
Few names attract attention on a call sheet, quite like New Super Precious Lee. She stands as a part of the new gen of influential models reshaping the landscape of fashion today, a terrain that still deals with the ebbs and flow of fashion’s sizing inclusivity issue. After almost a decade, she has established herself as a transformative force constantly advocating for diversity across race, body, and representation in high fashion – a daunting task for many but one she countlessly takes on with poise. Hailing from Atlanta, Lee’s most profound moments took place in her childhood, and if you ask her, every major fashion moment has been a testament to the power of manifestation. Signing at 18, she quickly made her way to New York after finishing college to launch a career fueled by a mission: to normalize Black, curvier, and unapologetically fierce frames like hers in spaces that had long been exclusionary. Away from home and family, her time was as precious as her name, and within a few years, her rise was nothing short of meteoric.
She earned coveted covers with Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue Italia, Dazed, i-D, and British Vogue, captured by celebrated photographers like Steven Meisel, Inez and Vinoodh, Tyler Mitchell, and Ethan James Green. As the first Black curve model to appear on the cover of Vogue, Lee has made an impact on representation in fashion and has been a role model for future generations to come. Her moments on the runway have been just as stellar, causing fervor when she shows off her jaw-dropping walk at shows like Versace, Mugler, Nina Ricci, and Moschino. Whether it’s an appearance in a denim campaign TV spot, a Savage x Fenty show streamed on Amazon Prime, the Met Gala red carpet, or a handful of beauty billboards [she has multiple], her crossover appeal has brought her to the masses as she continues to evolve as a multi-hyphenate talent. Shot by photographer and director Xavier Scott Marshall, Lee gets comfortable with Models.com uptown at The Mark to talk about how her family manifested her fashion takeover, redefining what it means to be a model on fashion’s most prominent global stages, and how it’s an ongoing effort to keep fashion accountable.
