The Graduates

Dara

For over a decade, Models.com’s The Graduates series has been a visual check-in with the models of the moment who have consistently performed at the highest levels, going from the rising newcomers on the Hot List to the Top 50 recognizable muses throughout the world. Names like Bella Hadid, Hoyeon, Vittoria Ceretti, and Sora Choi, to name a few, have all taken part of the milestone series that uniquely marks the shift in a model’s career. With major bookings in editorials, advertisements, lookbooks, and on the runway, these models have consistently locked down luxury clients in the most competitive markets while continuing to dominate on the global stage.

Shot in Paris during the madness of fashion week by photographer Mauricio Sierra, this year’s cast gets introspective with Models.com on their starts, the brands that have made their careers, and taking their place amongst an elite few.

Senegalese model Dara Gueye has carved a niche in the modeling world with his compelling story and exceptional talent. Scouted in Milan while on the cusp of graduating in agriculture, Dara’s journey from a student to a high-fashion Top 50 model was as unexpected as it was welcomed. His life turned when Ewa, from his mother agency, Ewa Talents Management, discovered him through Instagram. Reflecting on this pivotal moment, Dara says, “After graduating, I started working as a carpenter without thinking modeling could become my job. I later took Ewa’s proposal into consideration. A new world opened up to me, and I will always be grateful for that.” The risky chance marked the beginning of a career that would soon see him gracing the cover of Numero France and featuring in editorials for books like Re-Edition, M Le magazine du Monde, and CR Fashion Book.

Dara’s runway debut at Raf Simons was a defining moment, mainly as it occurred during the challenging times of the pandemic. He recalls, “It was a very emotional moment for me… I plucked up the courage and flew to Belgium without my parents knowing.” This bold step catapulted him into the limelight, leading to campaigns and lookbooks for top-tier brands like Dior Men, Prada, Jil Sander, Louis Vuitton, and Bottega Veneta. His journey is a testament to his resilience and passion, as he says, “Being in the top 50 [of Models.com’s Top 50 rankings] was a wonderful surprise, motivating me to continue growing and trying to improve as much as possible.” Dara’s story is not just about his rise in the fashion industry but also about embracing his roots, as he proudly asserts, “I am very attached to my origins… they are part of me,” showcasing how his Senegalese heritage influences his work and style. He’s consistently linked with fellow Senegalese model and photographer Malick Bodian, who also lives in Italy and has shot Gueye for Bottega Veneta.
