One of the primary complaints about NYFW is that it often lacks the showmanship and grandeur of the European collections. Editors have been muttering this under their breath for years, but Delpozo’s spring show may cause anyone who doubted New York’s capacity for refinement to eat their words. Josep Font delivered a collection of thoughtfully crafted feminine pieces that ran the gamut from skirts and tops emblazoned with crackled prints that called to mind the land art of Nils Udo, to some of the most detailed knitwear you’re likely to see anywhere this season. If you thought crochet couldn’t be cool take a look at Font’s three dimensional dresses for proof to the contrary.

Though each look held its own the most awe inspiring moments of Spring’s Delpozo show involved Font’s take on color. Using richly saturated hues of saffron and gold mixed in with pastel pinks and mint shades Font created a sumptuous argument for vibrance. After seasons of designers showing black, white and neutral Font’s journey into rainbow hues felt timely and refreshing. With a series of finale gowns delivered with couture precision in expansive tulle shapes its almost certain that Delpozo will be the a mainstay in the editorial pages come spring. If the salmon embroidered number on Manuela Frey doesn’t make its way to the cover of a Vogue there is no justice in this world!
