Helmut Lang SS14

The modernist works of artist Wade Guyton served as a starting point for Michael and Nicole Colovos the husband and wife duo behind Helmut Lang’s current incarnation. Guyton’s clean lines found their way onto the runway via prints that added a subtle accent to a collection rooted in austerity. The vast majority of looks relied on the timeless appeal of black and white, though a section of shocking pink added visual interest and a decidedly summery feel. Transparency – a summer staple and a house fixture dating back to the days when Helmut himself ran the NYC scene (dig up those old shots of S/S 02 for reference) – played a key role in this season’s story. A stark white shirt dress delivered in lighter than air sheer fabric provided a current take on a classic, while playful cutouts on cropped blouses gave just a hint of skin. Even all leather looks felt summery rather than sedate when paired with sleek silver sandals and a fresh range of covetable clutches. The total look as worn by the cooler than thou cast proved downright irresistible.
