3.1 Phillip Lim

Dadaist nonlinearity and 90s grunge nostalgia, dominated 3.1 Phillip Lim‘s energetic S/S show and though the themes may seem at odds with each other, they found a common ground on Lim’s runway. The spirit of Dada cut-ups and the Seattle sound were both about rule-breaking, freedom and creating material that was wildly new. Lim did a lot of that for Spring; tossing out the sleek superhero motif he ran with for fall and focusing on layering, plus a host of inventive pattern pairings. Who says you can’t mix florals with plaids and then add on little leopard print for good measure? Lim’s daring S/s mix was eccentric, while being completely wearable. Extroverts will be clamoring for those head to toe floral looks – which seem made for the street style set. Not jockeying for a spot on Jak & Jil? Never fear – there is still plenty to love – those leather jackets, metallic accessories and cheeky ‘I heart Nueva York’ shirts are sure to find their way into the closets of all the cool girls.
