It’s been a little under a year since Tre Samuels made his début as a Prada exclusive in Milan, and he has been making his mark on the industry ever since, walking a string of major shows and shooting with Paolo Roversi for Vogue Hommes International and Willy Vanderperre for i-D, always standing out with his eye-catching curly hair. What really sets Samuels apart, however, is his voice, a smooth R&B croon that is displayed to full effect on his new EP Lost in Translation, with six tracks that showcase the 17-year-old’s surprisingly mature sound.
Samuels, who was discovered as a model in New York while visiting from his native Australia to meet with music labels, answered some of our questions about his major influences and how he developed his musical voice in an interview, shot by webcam in the style of his YouTube covers that first got him attention as a singer years ago.
