Photographer:
Terry Richardson
Starring: Natasha Vojnovic/Next, Erin Wasson/IMG
The
ShopA Holic: A good collection with some good dresses.
The zippered stuff won't last but the sunglasses were great!
The Photo Rep: I hated these pictures the first time
I saw them. After all the on set drama, all the suspense,
all the anticipation, this is what we got? Three beat up looking
models against a hotel room wall. They flew to LA for that!
Whatever. But then something funny happened.. They really
grew on me. Especially the belt shot with the potbelly. I
thought Ok Love Terry or hate Terry, he's certainly got the
courage of his convictions.
The Editor: You know I had very similar sentiments.
By the time the campaign broke it did feel thoroughly anti-climactic.
But the fascination that Richardson clearly had with Vojnovic
personalized the images in a way that gave it sub-text. Ultimately
I think the images succeeded because the emotion was there.
A feeling of being very young, very rich, of living very fast
and of spending all your money even faster. On Gucci. Crass
images yes. But it was a crass time.
The Ad Exec: I thought it was a bad ad for the brand.
In an editorial you can go in this kinda dirty direction.
But in a campaign I think even when you're trying to be innovative,
you still should keep the heart of your brand. I liked Testino's
Glossly Gucci a lot more. I don't love a dirty Gucci. I guess
it was supposed to be a rock star ad but I think you should
always still feel rich even if you're going to dirty about
it. I just didn't get rich from this. Maybe I'm old but Gucci
is all about looking rich. Obviously rich.
