The Editor: Now this is interesting. When the Fall 2000 Gucci campaign first emerged, I loathed it. It looked inappropriately downmarket to my eyes which were so accustomed to Testino's frivolous decadence. Then the fine details started to emerge. There's that audacious "imprint" image in the young man's trousers and then there was the brazen moment with Caroline fondling Mini's bosom and all of a sudden my perception began to shift. This was Gucci but with Ford's refreshingly vulgar American roots jutting out. So to speak. And I came to appreciate it. Especially given the redundancy of most of the Fall 2000 ads!

The Photographer: I think it's great. I love the way Alexei uses the girls' bodies to form shapes. It's very posed and artificial but ironic in a way. The use of the backgrounds are very similar to last year's Prada ads with Angela Lindvall, but it works here even better. I think Alexi is very talented and came up with something very challenging and it's unfair to compare what he does with what Testino does.

The Agent: Hated it the first time I saw and still hate it. I think a lot of people are afraid of Tom because with YSL he's becoming so powerful now. Tom is great personally, but I think this campaign was a mistake and even he said in "W" that he thought the clothes this season were a little too commercial and that's my problem with the ad. A little too commercial.

The Editor: What do you suppose Tom's gift is? He's never argued that he was trying to be Yohji Yamamoto you know. Commercial is beautiful if it's done with integrity and these ads have Tom's sincerity in them.

The "It" Girl: I'm not crazy over the clothes this season either but I can see them in the pictures which is good. It's a very vintage look which I can't really get into right now. And those weird "lions head" looking accessories are soooo Versace it's scary. I like the goggles from the show and I like the scarves and the handbags, but those Helmut Lang looking leather jeans. Tired. And ruffles. Yuck! Viktor and Rolf didn't convince me and Gucci won't get my ass into ruffles anytime soon.
