The
Editor: I think these are the best Louis Vuitton ads I have seen
since Marc reinvigorated the house. In the past there was a gap between
the Vuitton frisson as communicated on the runway and what was expressed
in the ads. I mean last season's "changing room" series did
not match Marc's aloof chic. At all. But these. I can feel his brutally
selective presence here. The mixture of veterans like Stephanie, Christy
and Kate with the new blood of the Colette's and the Anouck's. Perfect.
The nonchalant styling and crisp black and white salvages it from the
retro-80's tint that marred the show. Inez and Vinoodh are brilliant
brand interpreters. They are the new generation! Bazaar is quite fortunate
to have them!
The
Photographer: Great styling, hair, make-up and casting saves this
from being a boring catalogue. And of course I have to commend the photography.
These guys love fashion, love models, love the whole idea of fashion
photography. They work hard and it shows. Do you know how hard it is
to shoot a girl with a handbag and make it look spontaneous. Great art
direction too. Wonder who did the lay-outs? This is my No 1. campaign
of the season!
The
Agent: Yeah but you should know these pictures are very influenced
by Dijan. I mean it's so close it's a little shocking. If these pictures
ran in V would you think they are so amazing. Because that's what this
whole campaign looks like to me. V's tribute to Elizabeth Dijan via
Inez and Vinoodh
The
Photographer: If V ran these pictures poster size, I'd probably
buy 2 copies. So they referenced. Like that's never happened before
in the history of fashion. Did you see the last issue of List?
The
"It" Girl: Is that beret in the stores yet? I'd totally
wear a Louis Vuitton beret. And the driving gloves. I have to have a
Louis Vuitton driving glove. And did you see that leather cuff with
the luggage fastening in the August Vogue. I called the store freaking
out and this rude guy on the phone didn't even know what the hell I
was talking about. Anyway Vuitton rocks. Love these pictures! Though
I'm not buying retro-80's Vuitton clothes. No way am I going with the
big shoulders!
The Editor: Actually they are not attempting to make a profit
on the clothes. The ready-to-wear is clearly Marc's way to amuse himself.
Vuitton is accessories and they rule the roost right now!
The "It" Girl: Next to Hermes.
The Editor: Of course!
