BRAIDS and BOUFFANTS. Happy To Be Nappy? In
B-Boy culture the ever classic baldies are still delicious to the naked eye and all but
its the braided, Afro'd, twisted, knotted soul brothers like new star Arue who deftly cut
the edge right this minute. It's Hip-hop meets 70's Classics meets 90's Afro-Chic. If the
thought makes you balk I know a wonderful wig emporium up on 125th that serves the most
wonderful Afro's and braided wigs and it is utterly b-boy friendly. Then I've been told of
a sighting out in Coney Island featuring this super-butch young Latino gentleman who while
walking his pit-bull was working a very Mary-Tyler-Moore-in-That-Girl flipped bouffant.
Our search party is presently combing Avenue X's Carrie Houses to uncover this
revoloutionary fashion moment. Speaking of revoloution, it was so exhilrating running into
popster Honeychild at Konkrete Jungle last Monday. She was wearing a rigorously elegant
banded Jackie O bouffant with a sweat suit top, Lycra running tights and a glistening pair
of blue and white Nike's. That's modern. |
