Steve was born in England and spent his early career in London after studying at the London College of Communication (formerly the London College of Printing) and the University of Derby.
On graduating, he was selected for the inaugural ‘Fresh Faced and Wild Eyed’ exhibition at The Photographer’s Gallery in London. That same year he was selected by the Times Magazine as one of five new artists to watch and featured in Creative Review and The New York Times.
Steve went on to work on his approach to making documentary portraits and developed a style that gained attention quickly. His work soon started to be published in magazines in the UK and Europe and in 2012, he moved to Los Angeles, where he worked between there, New York and London. Since then, Steve has returned to London where he currently resides. A mix of subtle humor and an approach of engaging and collaborating with his subjects allowing them to ‘act out’ has led to Steve winning numerous awards and having his work published by some of the most prestigious magazines in the world.
A number of his portraits are in the National Portrait Gallery’s Permanent collection, and his personal projects have been exhibited widely in Europe including Les Recontres D’Arles in France and Getxophoto in Spain.
