Liz Pugh’s instinctive knowledge of how make-up contributes to make an image current and her ability to help with the creative process has enabled her to rise through the ranks of a notoriously difficult industry. Her style focuses on her ability to create the most beautiful, fresh, dewy looking skin. “I would say that my real talent is skin,” she says, “Making skin this perfect surface, glowing and gorgeous, never hidden behind a mask. I love to enhance the natural beauty of a person.” From this perfect blank canvas, she creates the twist that makes the final look uniquely hers, while simultaneously interpreting the photographer’s vision to create some of the most memorable images of the past decade.
“I grew up looking at the pages of Vogue and used to admire how the make-up could change the look of a model. I longed to somehow be involved in the creation of those fabulous images."
Her training is impeccable and includes a list of impressive industry icons including Linda Cantello and Pat McGrath, all of whom she assisted during her early years, before joining their ranks. “It was amazing being on their teams as they have changed the way people view make-up and have allowed us to be able to be so much more creative with make-up”.
Hard work, determination and an approachable personality have contributed in taking her to the top of her profession, working on publications like Vogue (British, French, Italian) Harpers Bazaar, i-D, Dazed & Confused, as well as shows for Paul & Joe, Isabel Marant and Antoni and Alison.
Liz has collaborated with Rimmel, advising on their product development and attending launches globally on their behalf.
