Lenne Chai (b. 1991) is a Singaporean photographer and director who’s deeply curious about the world.
Based in Los Angeles, Lenne got her start as a fashion photographer in 2010, shooting for publications and brands such as Vogue, Gucci, W Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar and more.
Lenne’s perspective is intimately influenced by her conservative upbringing, using the visual language of nostalgia and yearning to create allegories of an alternate, queer-friendly Singapore. Her dreamy reimaginings of her hometown through her lens – whether in the form of queering the traditional Chinese wedding banquet, or conceiving a version of Singapore in which schools are safe spaces for LGBTQ civil discourse – have been featured in BBC World News, CNN, Vogue, Dazed, and exhibited at Objectifs and Singapore Art Week.
