Born in Paris, Dimeji Alara started his career as a junior reporter with Genevieve magazine – a leading women's lifestyle and fashion monthly in Nigeria – in 2004, and later became the fashion editor before leaving in 2007. In 2008, Alara interned at ELLE South Africa and later worked as fashion assistant till 2009. In 2010, he launched a monthly magazine called StyleMania in Nigeria, with a print run of ten thousand copies per month, before giving up his shares to pursue other opportunities. In 2013, he went back to Genevieve, becoming the first male and youngest editor in the history of the magazine. In 2017, he was appointed fashion editor of ELLE South Africa becoming the first black man to ever hold the position, then was promoted to fashion director a year later, overseeing the fashion team in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. Dimeji is currently working as a freelance fashion editor.
